i can't get into any of these new rappers, they all seem like they are bringing nothing new to the table. Same old Same old. Rick Ross is the absolute worst, we get it you're rich. #free boosie

Rap won't die off anytime soon. I agree with you in that it has taken a turn for the worse. I will admit that maybe I am getting too old but today's popular rap is awful. You just have to search a lot harder to find the good stuff but that's how most good music is regardless of genre.

i love rap, it's my favorite genre, but i can't take much more.

You have to look away from the mainstream for the most part. Kendrick Lamar, Big K.R.I.T., Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse, Danny Brown, Stalley, and Dom Kennedy all bring something different and are very creative for the most part. Another way to find something good from say a more mainstream artist is to check to see if they released any official mixtapes. On mixtapes they tend to release material aimed at more hardcore hip hop fans.

Rap used to be the only thing I listened to. I used to have and know every new song that came out. I don't know if it's just me getting older or what but every rap song I hear sounds like shite. If I put my Itunes on shuffle and some of the rap comes on, I just think WTF was I thinking. I couldn't tell you the top rap songs out right now.

I now view rap as 80's new wave and am probably in the minority. I will always love bands like 'Til Tuesday and early INXS, but the sound didn't hold up, nor should it have.
Rap has been done. I will always love the stuff I grew up on, but it seems the genre has done a great job of feeding on ignorance and spewing it.
I wouldn't be upset if it died out completely; of course that will never happen.

i've been listening to wayne since he was a kid and all that gangster talk he talks is crazy he was never a gangster, he's been famous and rich since he was like 13. it's just silly now

Rap, maybe, but Hip Hop lives on. It has returned to the underground for the most part. I like rock also but just like the hip hop I like it doesn't reside in the mainstream. Don't take what you hear on MTV or your local station as end all be all of hip hop music.

I felt this way several years ago. Rap had just gotten so bad. I was done with it.
What I figured out is that it is generally really really bad, but that there are still gold nuggets out there to be found. Basically, I don't let hip hop come to me. I go to hip hop. I try to proactively find the artists that interest me, and I listen to them and only them.

Believe me I have listened to a lot of Underground hip-hop. All of that is starting to even sound the same. Some white guy wants to be the next Eyedea or Sage Francis. Enough already.

80s new wave is basically back. A lot of indie electropop* bands have a 80s new wave-ish sound to them.
*This is just a word I use for lack of a better word. It isn't an actual, accepted term.

Yeah, you are right, but it's not the same. Music has to fit a time. It fit the 80's, IMHO. Today, it's just recreators. Nice of them to pay homage.
