imo yes. Total badass. Can hit notes all over the spectrum.
I'm not talking about that Bon Jovi bullshite metal either.

Geoff Tate or Ronnie James Dio

Dio, Tate and Bruce Dickinson are laughing at your thread

Dickinson, sure.
Dio always sounded like a screaming woman to me. Not manly at all. Admittedly, I haven't listened much to Geoff Tate but anyone who looks like this:
doesn't exactly say "attitude".

That’s cool. Just another metal band, only sold 20 million records over their career. You should definitely start more definitive metal threads.
FWIW Anselmo would be in my top 5 for Cowboys From Hell alone.

No Queensryche? WTF is wrong with you?

No, and he would be the first to admit it.

Tie between Halford and Dickinson.

Biggest Phil fan on the planet and he sounded the best he has in awhile this past Friday night, but I wouldn't put him up there with the best. At least not when you factor in longevity. Dope, cigarrettes, etc burned his voice out rather quick.

As far as a frontman goes, in metal he was one of the best in the 90s. Which was an important decade. Stage presence picked up the slack where his vocal range couldn't imo.

Totally agree. Still get chills when he walks on stage, even though I've probably seen him 15 or so times.

He's an incredible front man, but not because of his voice.

Phil Anselmo deserves a statue in New Orleans... probably at Xavier's school of pharmacy.

Bruce or Dio. Halford and Ripper Owens are up there too.
Phil was great when he could do Cemetary Gates but he couldn't sustain that for very long. Those notes were never a big part of what he did and he mostly just semi-screamed.
