Is Adam Lambert Queen’s frontman simply because he’s gay?

He's a hell of a good singer, but he's over the top even for Queen

He's really not. I tried watching a whole Queen show with him, it wasn't enjoyable musically.

I saw them in a sold out arena full of people enjoying every minute of the show. They've actually sold out most major arenas in the US and Europe with him. Obviously a few people think he's ok.

And that's fine, I'm glad you and other people enjoy him with Queen. For me, I don't like Adam's singing style.

I think he can sing, but his renditions of Queen songs are horrible If you love the originals.
Freddie had such a unique voice and style, it’s hard to emulate. And I understand that Adam is doing his own thing, I just personally think it’s unwatchable.

He really is. I can’t think of another singer that could pull it off. Unless ,like Journey, there is some dude in the Philippines who nobody knows but can WAIL.
And yes, Lambert is over the top at times.

It's funny that you mention Journey because the singer that would be better in Journey and in Queen is the same guy. Jeff Scott Soto.

With Brian May and Roger Taylor.

Marc Martel can really do Freddie, and play the piano. He would have been a better choice, IMO, and I have nothing against Lambert

Love of My Life

I get that the group really wanted someone to NOT be Freddie in concert, but IDK, I think they could have gone the Journey route and been just as successful.

I think Marc did some of the singing for the movie, and is in the official cover band.

Well he's not going to upstage fred

But, he's there to tour with the members of the band and allow them to do what they enjoy

Exactly. Saw them live last year and he does a great job with Queen, but they constantly mention Freddie and even have him appear in holographs and on screen.

Did he get the job in part because of his notoriety? Sure, but also because of his talent.

Adam Lambert is a white gay version of Jennifer Hudson

Martel is amazing and kind of favors Freddie a bit.
That version of,” Love of My Life” is so spot on

I like him. He's not trying to be Freddie. He brings his own vibe to it.

Can't imagine why anyone would pay money to see Queen without Farrokh Bulsara

As a fan of Brian May I would have interest in seeing Queen with another singer, but not with Adam Lambert. The guy obviously has a lot of talent, but hearing him perform with Queen I think illustrates one aspect of why Freddie Mercury was such a great singer. Freddie sang in an authentic rock voice when the song called for it. If you've seen interviews of Freddie when he talks about Brian, he didn't like Brian's rock songs. But he delivered when he needed to.

Listening to Lambert sing certain Queen songs is like listening to an opera singer trying to sing in any other style of music: they can't get away from their own style of singing.

Hearing guys like Lambert has increased my appreciation for the work of hard rock singers. It's not just talent, you have to deliver the emotion and attitude without sounding like you're singing on Broadway.

The rumor has always been that Brian and Roger wanted Jeff Scott Soto to be the vocalist but the powers that be wanted a bigger name.

This is what bothers me about Lambert. He uses his heavy vibrato operatic vocal style on every Queen song and it just becomes grating to the ear. He's a poor rock vocalist where Jeff can sing any style of rock out there.

I don't understand the point of this thread. Regardless, while I do think Adam Lambert is a pretty decent singer, I don't think he's a great fit for Queen.
