Imagine Dragons, the next Nickelback?

I had to walk through their crowd to get to some friends this weekend in Atlanta, and just couldn't quit thinking how awful they were. But the reason I think they'll be the next band that everyone makes fun of was the age demographic I saw. A shite-ton of younger kids drinking booze out of plastic baggies and rocking the frick out. I can definitely see all these people in five years hearing the shite and asking "what the frick were we thinking?".
Same shitty, generic sound. Same shitty, meaningless, cliche' lyrics. This will be the measuring stick by which all shitty music will be judged in the future, mark my words.

No doubt they're bad. I just think they'll be the next thing that's popular to hate on because they seem to take themselves so seriously. Some crappy bands are easier to make fun of than others, and these guys look and sound like a band that was made to be a punchline.

I don't mind them. They have some catchy hooks/beats and are berklee trained musicians.
But yeah, I can see how they would get pretty tiresome after a while. The album isn't really good. 2 catchy songs on it IMO.

I think every generation has their Nickleback, just something that's overtly manufactured and targeted at high-school age demographics that everyone looks at when they're older and shakes their head. I think these guys are prime candidates.

I don't think they're bad because they're popular, I think they're bad because they sound bad. Music is subjective and I can tell they we wouldn't share most opinions on it because of this:

I don't think they are thaaat terrible but they seem to try too hard to make their songs sound like anthems that should be played in arenas... if that makes sense.

Imagine Dragons isn't quite at that level imo. Their debut had some catchy songs. It wasn't a very good album as a whole, though. Still... Not Nickelback-bad.
