I don't know what made me think of this song, but I grew up listening to the CCR version.

When I looked it up on youtube, other artist came up. Oh no, they didn't write it?!
Joking. Any, I looked up some of the other versions, including the original by Screaming Jay Hawkins. I don't know if I'm bias, but I still like CCR's version of it the best. I just love the swing/groove of the song, and those guitar solos... 
I heard Joe Crockers version, which was pretty legit, but what say you music board?

Yes she did, but listening to it, amazing voice, but it's too slow and kind of lulls me to sleep.
The reason I like the CCR version is the tempo, the jangling guitars, and the raw vocals. It just feels badass.

I really can't decide.
They all iffer something unique.

Arthur Brown did a version of the song. CCR's the best though, one of those covers that's better than the original.

i love nina simones slow version, but im biased. she is my favorite female vocalist of all time. ive always dug ccrs version too.

Just looked at a video of SJH singing "Spell". It's sad that he's no longer around; I could see him doing that song before Mitt Romney's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention and getting everyone psyched to go grab the White House.

Screaming jay Hawkins had the best version IMO. Guy was batshit crazy.
