Yes, they could sing, but their vocals didn't blow anyone away.

her music can be summed up in 2 ways

1. OMG found the love of my life he's perfect.
2. OMG I hate guys.

the hate for Taylor Swift

anything or anyone popular becomes a lightning rod for criticism.

I can show how unique & awesome my tastes are by criticizing the "popular" acts.

While she isn't the greatest singer of all time you also have to admit neither were The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin,

Dylan is valid. His voice is an acquired taste. I don't like it. But he is an excellent songwriter obviously. Beatles?? Try Karaoke'ing "Yesterday" that's a fricking tough song. And Joplin is apples to oranges comparison. She was a blues wailer. In her prime nobody could do what she did vocally.

Taylor Swift I hope is intelligent with her money. I feel her music and her writing will not age well. She is IMO already too old to sing about what she sings about. She has to seem genuine to another group of 13-17 year old girls because the ones who made her famous are in college now.

The word around Nashville is that her dad wrote a check to Big Machine and basically said "make her famous". Her dad owns Swift trucking, those 18 wheelers with SWIFT on them. That's her dads company. Also, there aren't many people in Nashville who like her. She paid no dues to get where she's at. She's in the same category as Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina to me.

bullshite. She's fricking terrible. Her lyrics are cheesy and nothing but pop garbage. She can't even sing in studio and her vocal phrasing is so bad I can barely listen to it.

It has nothing to do with her popularity. I loved Garth Brooks.

Not horrible, but over-hyped with vanilla songwriting and a weakish voice.

I understand why the tweeners like her but would be surprised if she became a long-term quality artist.

But what do you expect a teenage girl to write about. unlike everyone else she writes all/most of her stuff that why a lot of the songs sound a like and they sound like a teenage year old girl wrote them

I have little cousins who live in Los Angeles....they are little city kids. Taylor Swift has these little Hollywood girls listening to country music now. I like TS for this reason alone.....

she is easily the most talented

Please...

TS is another one of Nashville's shiny new products. She is not talented, nor does she have a good singing voice. Sound engineers, and glitter have made her what she is. She is popular because CMT wants her to be popular because CMT wants to make $$$. She doesn't write her music either. That is a fabrication all a part of the "Nashville Product" to convince people to buy her music. It's fake.

In my opinion, she is easily the most talented artist/musician of the Hilary Duff/Miley Cyrus era of tween music

Being better than Miley Cyrus isn't saying much.

she writes her own material which is more than can be said for other, more famous pop artists like Beyonce

Only half way valid point here. Yes she writes her own stuff, but it's pretty terrible and repetitive.

Are you really going to compare her to these artists?

She's also surprising good and charismatic live on stage and can whip almost any crowd into a frenzy with what she says and does on stage.

It's teenage girls, and younger at those shows. I bet Justin Beiber can do the same thing. Hell, I could walk out with a lab puppy and do the same thing.

What they are listening to is not country.

Taylor's music is more Pop/Nashville Pop than country, but she has gotten them into the genre. When I saw them 2 years ago they had TS on their iPods.....last year they had TS, Faith Hill, Reba, Shania, etc etc

I liken Taylor Swift to marijuana. She's like the gateway drug to country music for many young kids.
