I'm having even more of a brain fart this morning than usual, and a huge portion of my memory has failed me.I'll blame it on being a residual of my "medical event". A good -sized swath of brain cells was screwed up. I'm improving slowly, but I'm trying to remember the hottest live music clubs in B. R. and their locations from the 70's to mid-80's or so. There was a big one, as I recall, on Stanford, right? And wasn't the Kingfish somewhere on Perkins? I seem to recall that the Caterie was in a shopping center on Perkins, as well. Have mercy on me guys. I'm trying.

Sports Page was on Old Hammond @ Sherwood. Mid 80's hair band kind of place.

I think that was Mother Earth back in the 70s?

The Bayou at Northgate -- REM apparently played there around the time their first album came out
The Library, a door of two down
Hendrix played someplace called Independence Hall in '68.

Jacy's on Florida, Pappas Joe's on Nicholson, the Bengal on Highland, the Art Bar on Highland, and the Rusty Nail off of Lobdell. I loved the Sports Page, quality hard rock and quality poon.

I think you're talking about the one across from Baton ROuge Beach. The building was finally torn down when they built that hideous monstrosity of an apartment complex about 10 years ago. It was before my time, but my dad always told stories about it.
I'll always remember it as a vacant red building with a wall of graffiti.

The Caterie was in the shopping center at Perkins and Acadian. That was my college haunt.

Texas Club & The Cajun Hall
The Cajun Hall was originally Cowboys nightclub out in front of Bon Marche. Texas Club used it for acts they knew would most likely attract a larger audience than what they could accommodate at Texas Club. Saw David Allan Coe at The Cajun Hall back in the early 90’s.
And well, Texas Club, I think, is still considered somewhat of a music venue. I’ve seen many shows there including several country acts and Ted Nugent and RATT.

The Pixies played at the Bayou a year or two before I started going to LSU. Think the Police played there back in the day. That was a great bar. They played vinyl albums, one side at a time. I remember shooting pool and drinking pitchers of Turbodog while listening to side one of "Ziggy Stardust" and side one of "Nevermind".
The Sex Pistols played at the Kingfish during their first U.S. tour. They had a lot of good punk and new wave acts play there back in the day. A friend of mine who is a historian looked up in old copies of The Advocate - The Ramones played one night, Elvis Costello played around the same time.

That was originally the Speakeasy before it became Mother Earth.
Amboy Dukes, Johnny Winter, Brownsville Station, MC5 all played there IIRC.
It was the birth place of Potliquor when they formed from the remnants of the Basement Wall. Lots of good times at that place.
