Turned out pretty well, but not crazy about how the singer did the first verse.

Yeah, I agree the phrasing on the first verse just seems off.

I'm going to go ahead and pitch it around some, the way that it is, but probably will redo the first verse. He just wasn't into proper cadence yet.
The rest of it's OK.

The lyrics and mood are better suited for a female vocalist imo. Needs some lyrical cleanup or a vocalist who can fit some of those lyrics into the measure without rushing the end of the line. Your mix is great. The sounds are great.

It's based on a true story about a guy that I crossed paths with on an Indian Reservation.
That singer is really good, but the problem with really great singers, is just like really great guitar players or great piano players. They are always going to do as much as they can to add to songs. Some songs though need a minimal approach. He was trying to pretty it up too much.
I did the vocals on my work tape, and it wasn't bad, but I don't think he even listened to that.
I may end up singing it myself. I can do it pretty well, if I want to take the time

That is very impressive. Takes a lot of guts to put your work out there. Thanks for posting

It doesn't take a lot of guts when it's actually pretty good.

I hope auggie posts more.

I have 3 or 4 more that I'll be getting done over the next few weeks.
I'll post them if they turn out OK.

It's a mix of both.
I do what I can at home to save money, then send it to a guy in Nashville.
I can do pretty good guitar tracks at home on a digital recorder, but I'm no sound engineer or singer.
That demo cost about $350(no joke). including fiddle player and singer.

I hadn't thought about it, but I guess you are right.
I need to keep that in mind when we redo the vocals.

I could envision a harmonica as well, give it a real Plains vibe.

There is a wooden flute in there in some places, but it's hard to hear with the fiddle.
You can really hear it the best at the beginning of the bridge.

It sounded like more than 1 flute, like a led zep song I can't name off the top of my head.

There may be. The guy at the studio can play damn near anything and he put that in there.

I've worked with them off and on, since around 1993.
