Guns N' Roses Rant

Guns N' Roses has been one of my favorite bands for many years now. I have always loved their music, and I believe Axl Rose is one of the greatest singers/front-men in rock n' roll history.
With that being said, the Axl Rose Band (which is what Guns N' Roses should be called these days) is unbelievably frustrating when it comes to releasing albums. It took Axl and the thousand different musicians who were in the ever revolving GnR lineup what, almost 15 years to release Chinese Democracy, and now, seven years after that album came out, there still is no album to follow that one, despite Axl and company claiming they have a bunch of material finished and ready to go.
The thing with Axl Rose is... the dude is the ultimate perfectionist who does things Axl's way, in Axl's time. He doesn't care that his albums are released decades apart or that it frustrates the fans who are patiently waiting for new music, he will release the album when he's ready and that's it.
So when will their new album be released? Hopefully before this decade is over. Also, why the dude can't make peace with Slash is beyond me. Slash has tried to reconcile with him multiple times, but Axl refuses to have anything to do with him. Man, he's an awesome performer, but what a weird guy, to be honest.

Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest?

I'm not even sure I'd want to hear recent GNR recordings.
Give me Slash and his new band with Myles Kennedy over Axl any day.

They started out so great, and after one almost GOAT album and one awesome EP, they went to utter shite. What they became is beyond a doubt the biggest disappointment I can think of musically, perhaps. The fact they got in the RRHOF before so many more deserving bands makes me sick, and is one more example how that organization is the worst.

Chinese Democracy was recorded and rerecorded several times. I'm sure they could fill a few albums worth of songs that were recorded and never released. This new album will probably be done the same way.

The Illusion albums were pretty good in my opinion. Very different from Appetite, but still solid albums

Myles Kennedy brings Axl down to his nanananananaknees

Axl is a strange SOB and is the some reason The original line up is no more. I have heard many of different stories and articles where there are tons of material in Axls closet that is stellar but Axl thinks it's crap. I remember watching their behind the music when VH1 still did those and it was crazy how everyone that was a part of the group all said it was a ticking time bomb and it was just a matter of time until it was over.
Why people fee they are bigger than life is beyond me but the dude is a fricking weirdo.

I remember hearing an interview with Slash on XM Radio back around 2008. He said years ago he tried to go to a venue where Axl was performing, so he could check his band out and talk/make amends. Slash said security would not allow him inside the facility at Axls request. I think that was pretty much the last straw.

Axl Rose is just a piece of shite. Nothing more, nothing less

I heard on the radio up here in Asheville last week that they were seriously considering having the original guys record a new album. I am sure money talks at this stage. Those guys would get a nice fat paycheck from that and a tour. They would be foolish not to seriously consider it. Of course, Steven Adler had a stroke several years ago from cocaine, I think but he still plays if I'm not mistaken. It affected his speech. Axl is just a total headcase and completely unpredictable. I think he is bipolar as well which is not surprising to me at all. I would love to see it but I'm afraid it might look bad like Van Halen does now. I would prefer just to remember them in their prime.

I think they had so much potential after the Illusions. I honestly believe they had a 'Stonesish' quality about them.... With Axl and Slash they had potential to be more than they were but I think Izzy was a key ingredient that was gonna be missed in the studio. I saw them twice in the early days and was grateful to have done so. Even though it's the Axl show, I did enjoy some songs on Chinese Democracy: Catcher In The Rye, Madagascar, and Better.

Yeah, Izzy and Duff were as integral to the sound and character of that band as Axl and Slash. It would be pretty cool to see what those four could come up with today. I bet they would put out some really bluesy, awesome music.

Izzy's rhythm grr stuff and the way it worked with Slash on AFD is the key to that record being the shite. The more Axl went Diva the further that band got away from what made them badass.
I'm not sure Steven can even play at this point? But if so an original lineup record with Axl not producing would be interesting.
Or get the original lineup together with Myles Kennedy. He will sing his arse of and stay out of the way.

A new GNR record would not sound anything like what you are wanting.
Didn't you learn you lesson from The Spaghetti Incident like everyone else?

Take this as you will, but I was in Los Angeles last month and met Chris Pitman, who plays in the current Guns N Roses line up. Super nice guy. I was asking him some questions about the band which he was cool enough to answer. He said contrary to popular belief Axl is an awesome guy and that Slash is a complete a-hole and the biggest headcase he's ever known. Granted it was unlikely he would trash a guy he currently plays with, but he basically confirmed some speculation I had read about on here that Slash is an egomaniac as well and Axl got an unfair rep

Axl Rose is a pretty decent musician, but he is just a weird weird weird arse dude. Always has been, always will.

Adler recently did a long interview on the Eddie Trunk podcast. He says he plays all the time and really wants a reunion.
Eddie said Slash tweeted Axl happy birthday, which he saw as a small positive. He also noted that Slash is getting divorced, which often makes one need lots of cash.
