I've been using a 25 year old Crate 40 watt amp and I know it's old and outdated and really wasn't very good to begin with. Now I've been running my guitar through my Mac via garage band and while you get get a variety of different sounds it really does not have the output for premium quality tone.

What are you using and do you like it?

I have a few...

My practice amp, for when I'm feeling lazy, is a Fender GDec 30. This is a solid state modeling amp. It's good for practice because I can get a bunch of different sounds just by turning a knob.

The best-sounding amp I have is a 40 watt Marshall JCM2000. It runs on a quad of EL84 tubes. It's a two channel amp and the OD channel can kick in an extra pre-amp for even more overdrive. However I tend to play this amp on the clean channel and get my distortion from my pedals. It has a built-in spring reverb too. The only thing I don't like is that it seems like I get more reverb on the OD channel than the clean channel.

I also built an amp based on the old Fender 5e3 tweed circuit from the 50's. This one is very minimalist, no bells, no whistles, no effects, no reverb just good clean tone. Takes to pedals like a golden retriever to water. The only drawback is that it has no reverb so I need to get a reverb pedal for it.

Lastly, I have a '66 Fender Princeton blackface. I rarely use this one even though it sounds great. I really should play with it more.

My main rig right now is a Victory RD1. It's is an absolute little beast! This is probably the best tone Ive ever had. 28 watts switchable down to 2 watts. Point to point wiring with all premium components and only 3 knobs. Very creamy Marshall type overdrive. Perfect for a Bonamassa lead tone and boosted with my Analogman Prince of Tone in the front gives you awesome saturation and great chunky 80's style rhythm. Im running it through an Avatar 2x12 with a V30 and Creamback.

Rob Chapman playing his signature RD1

Blues licks through the RD1 with Les Pauls and SG's

My other rig is an insanely sexy Splawn Quick Rod 50 in a mid sized plexi head in cream white with a matching 2x12 cab. This rig is actually for sale right now. Too much amp for my needs right now. If you want modded Marshall plexi on steroids tone, this it the tits! If I were in a full touring band, this would be my main rig.

Not mine but an identical one to it. Mine is mint minus a small tear on the head.

Even with the mods, it's no 800...decent through my ancient Crate 4x12 with 90's era Celestions...I don't use the onboard distortion, just my Digitech RP2000 with an Ibanez overdrive pedal.

TBH, when I upgraded to gold instrument cables...wow. What a difference.

Practice: Vox AD50VT (nice at low volume; sounds like shite at high volume)
Regular amp: Fender Vibrolux (Have two: one black face and one silver face)
Bigger amp: Sunn Model T (Way too big; painfully loud; need to get rid of it)

Fender Mustang 3.

I suck too badly to know if I have a good amp or not. The little dial says it models about 75% of the amps mentioned in the thread.

Mesa Boogie Nomad 55

Doesn't get quite as hot as a dual rec but it was what I could afford in college. I've since spent more on two pairs of shoes.

I just have a DigiTech multi for recording direct now but I had a Mesa Boogie Mark III red stripe with the graphic EQ, it was amazing and the closest thing to the legendary Mark IIC+ heavy rhythm and solo sound

1990 Boogie Mark III green stripe head riding a Recto series wide-body vertical 2x12. It's loaded with a modern Greenback reissue and a well-broken-in G12M-70 from 1982. The head is currently in Petaluma getting an A-to-Z wellness check and age-related refurb (filter caps and stuff) plus a couple special mods I requested. Should be back in about two weeks. I'm salivating already.

I found a used Orange Thunderverb 50 a few months ago and really like it. That thing can make any sound at any volume and sounds pretty good as a head for a bass, too.

My old, trusty friend is a Crate Vintage Club 50 (Crate mistakenly forgot who they were and made an all-tube, nice-sounding amp).
