Nah, Trey Anastasio was pretty great in the 90s, and these Goose guys just seem to be trying to replicate that sound without much success.

The have a live album on Spotify Trey Anastasio does a few tracks with them.

I like what I’ve heard, which admittedly isn’t a lot. They sound a lot like Phish to me. Similar guitar tone, jams are structured the same.
I could see them being the same as SCI back in the 90s. Came out hot, played big theaters, good slots at the festivals. Still going 25 years later with a devoted fan base but smaller venues and crowds.

They are selling out 12k amphitheaters this summer.
They are obviously influenced by phish which isnt that big of deal to me, they definitely have their own thing going on as well. I think people that call them a phish knockoff are extremely short sighted.
Their lyrics and songwriting doesnt bother me, im there for the jams and they deliver.

it appears goose is well ahead of the curve and have attracted devoted fans extremely quickly. Like you said they are selling out amphitheaters on a straight upward trajectory. Very similar to Billy strings’ path. They are here to stay as long as they want to.
nothing but a good thing as far as I’m concerned. They put on a fun show and the crowds are great

the pure enjoyment you get from watching me go crazy at goose shows should be enough to keep you coming back!

I saw them for the first time at the Fox Thurs show a few weeks ago. Never really listened to them much, but there is a pretty significant Phish element to them. I could pick out chord progressions that almost mirrored Phish jams - one was the buildup at the end of Hood, another the buildup at the end of Slave, amongst others. Very similar guitar tone from the lead guy.
I'm not saying that's good or bad, but it's definitely there and it's definitely a legitimate callout. They do have their own thing, so I'm not going to label them a knockoff, but the Phish thing is certainly there. They do what they do really well, so I'm not trying to say they don't have the chops or anything, but I did have this sense of...."I feel like I've seen this all before" several times throughout the show.

They’ve taken a HUGE step forward in 2024. I’ve seen them 5 times so far and will 4 more times. I haven’t been as excited about a band since 2001 Panic.

I just saw them in Winston-Salem for their Hurricane benefit show. I have to say it. They are boring. I tried. I’m open minded and love all types of music. Their light show is very cool and I feel like they use it as a crutch.

goose is OK in small doses. They can all play and the scene/vibe is great. The songs just aren’t very good.
plenty of people love them though and they are a major touring act now that should be a long term thing which is really hard to do

They sound like Maroon 5, if they were a jam band.

not a bad comp. SCI benefitted from the phish hiatus in the early 00s.
Goose is filling the void of Phish and panic aging.
youngheads need someone to complain about. Goose is perfect
