floyd. Queen is good stuff, but not in the same league.

Damn this is super tough. Gotta go with Queen though.

I always feel like I'm missing something with Queen. I get they have some quality stuff in their catalog but I can't imagine anyone thinking they are even close to a band like Pink Floyd.

Pink Floyd and it's not close for me. Love Queen but PF is in a whole other league.
Dark Side of the Moon was on the charts EVERY week for 15 YEARS STRAIGHT and is tied for 2nd place as the all time best selling album worldwide. The Wall is tied for 20th.
Queen has no album in the top 70 except for a greatest hits album at number 42. That's as high (70's) as the list I found went.
Again, I am not knocking Queen at all but the depth of PF's stuff is on another level.

While I respect what Floyd did, and like the sound of a lot of it, I seem to never finish out their songs. No idea why.
Queen.
Queen.

He was the greatest frontman indeed...but I much prefer Floyd.

About the 16:00-19:00min mark of "Echoes" provides the answer. Queen is the bomb, but classic era Floyd essentially defined two influential genres of music: Psychedelic Rock and Prog Rock.

Mercury was an outstanding frontman, sure. Their music is fun, classic rock. Pink Floyd however, is a journey. It takes you all sorts of places, makes you feel all sorts of emotions. David Gilmour has created some of the most incredible guitar work of all time, I'd actually put Comfortably Numb as the greatest solo on an album I've ever heard (Live versions are even more incredible). Some of the most tasteful playing there is.
I love Queen and Mercury, but this isn't even close for me; There is just much more to Pink Floyd.

I can respect this opinion. Floyd was WAY deeper than Queen. Its close But I still like what Queen did as a whole. JUST MY OPINION.
I will say this. I have had a great BUZZ going and then Some Floyd would put me into ANOTHER Galaxy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone said apples and okra, and that is an extremely apt analogy. I don't think anyone would find the claim that Pink Floyd was as a whole composed of more musically talented individuals contentious (again, that's as a whole, Freddy is otherworldly by himself). For me, however, I find PF's music to be too context dependent, i.e., I have to be in just the right state of mind to enjoy it. I can pop in Queen anytime and enjoy it. With that in mind, I give the nod to Queen.
