Takes me way back. And what a musician Edgar Winter is!
Fwiw, I just found out that the drummer, Chuck Ruff, died last year at age 60.
That's Rick Derringer (Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo) on guitar, and Dan Hartman on bass.

this song was the precursor to many black incursions into rock (that 'full' sound which only they seem to get, or if you're talking about the very few whites who get a full sound, you could say they're 'funky' which is not technically correct, but the closest way to describe it).
anyway, i think most of you know what i mean (as sound is difficult to verbalize, especially in a written format).

I went to the Delta blues musuem is Leland MS the other day and they had a shrine set up for Edgar Winter and his brother Johnny. Apparently they spent a good bit of their childhood there and that's where a lot of their musical talent derives from. Anyway, I be those white sumbitches stood out like a sore dick in Leland MS.

I believe Butch Vig said a while back that they were re-recording that song recently and Edgar had forgotten pretty much the entire thing

When I was dating my wife in the 90's, Edgar Winter came to Tipitina's in New Orleans. Her girlfriend called her with 2 tickets, so they went together.
They get home later, and I ask how the concert was. They BOTH say, "Great, but they never played "Smoke on the Water". We were in the front row yelling it the whole time, but they never played it!"
I married her anyway.

Rick Derringer still working the road hard. The last coupla years he n Edgar toured with Ringo Starr's All Star (Rockers With Walkers) Tour.
Johnny & Edgar toured a lot in south La & Tex before hitting it big. I saw them both in small bar venues. Can't remember where for Johnny. By chance anyone see Edgar Winter's White Trash ('70-71) at Slicks (Signorellis) in St. Martinville La?

The original recording had Ronnie Montrose playing guitar. It's sad that Edgar Winter is the only surviving musician from the They Only Come Out At Night album. Ronnie Montrose, Dan Hartman and Chuck Ruff have all passed away.

What happened to Jerry LaCroiz[Jackson] that sang a while in the White Trash. You do know that 3 or 4 old Boogie Kings from Louisiana were in White Trash in the early 70's. Drummer Bobby Rameriez was the first drummer and got murdered by the mafia over a Don's girlfriend in Chicago? I think. Jon Smith played sax first in White Trash, I knew him when I lived in Baton Rouge. I think Marshal Cyr played horns too. That's 4 Kings in White Trash. Do you know where they are? Jerry Lacroix is sick with heart failure and living with his mother in S.E. Texas, I heard. Edgar Winter's White Trash in 71 and 72 was the best live White band in America. I saw them several times. I played in bands too, and I can tell you White Trash was THE BEST. Awesome. Tight. They became the Edgar Winter Group without Jerry LaCroix on the second album.

Dandy Lion--- That sound is a tight R&B sound with horns and a B-3. The Boogie Kings had it, G G Shinn and the Roller Coasters, Chase, Tower of Power, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, Booker T and the M.G.s , the early original Chicago all had it. White Trash was the best live band I ever heard in my life. I heard them in Baton Rouge in late '72 or early '73 and Monroe at that old mafia night club. Minus Jerry LaCroix, they went on to be The Edgar Winter Group. Same songs.
