Did you know it was the Dwight Yoakam cover of the song Honky Tonk Man by Johnny Horton back in 1986?

Dwight Yoakam was rejected by the suits in Nashville and so he headed West to California. He was accepted by an unlikely audience.

Dwight had some great videos that the MTV crowd loved and accepted. More so than Nashville.

But they sure accepted Barth Brooks though.

Dwight Yoakam was never accepted by Nashville even at his height of his career.

I think if he was accepted then his career would have had a huge boost like many country artists that came out of Nashville in the late 80s and 90s.

He had it much tougher than those artists trying to make a career doing music.

Yoakam is a legend. Buenas Noches, Guitars Cadillacs Etc Etc, and This Time are brilliant albums start to finish

He had a small concert in Eureka Springs, Arkansas some years back. I didn't go for some reason.

My comment was towards Lil Nas X clown name and his clown music.

Dwight Yoakam is a much superior talent and doesn't make a mockery of the genre unlike clown name and Beyonce.

I realized that after but then I thought maybe he'll just think I'm responding to the OP with a general comment. But no you had to go and be observant

Wonderful show last night. Looked and sounded great! He’s 67 yrs old. He played songs one after the other like the Ramones. No breaks in between. He has so many great songs.

Dwight couldn't get anybody to listen to him in Nashville. He went to LA and started playing sets in punk rock clubs.

He would have been on the level of the likes of Alan Jackson, Toby Keith or George Strait had he had the full support of Nashville.

Uhhh, he has his own freaking Sirius/XM channel. I guess you can say he disappeared from commercial radio. I just saw him play last weekend in a sold out theater.
