quote:

Elton, 63, told how he came to appear on the album's track 'All Of The Lights' playing piano and singing, saying to Rolling Stone magazine: "I ran into Kanye in Honolulu last January. He's a stone-cold genius. He's like Miles Davis meets Frank Zappa. "He played us the track for 'All of the Lights and it was f***ing amazing. It's like, 'Wow, this is something else'. I mean, he sampled Bon Iver! That's his genius. His new album is a masterpiece."

For frick's sake...

No, Sir Elton. That's his iPhone. You playing the piano is genius. Bernie's lyrics are genius. Your not realizing that what you and Bernie do takes talent and what Kanye does does not take talent is probably autism.

He is a genius producer.

Springsteen agrees:

quote:

As for other genres, Springsteen had kind words for Kendrick Lamar, whom he described as "intense." He is also a fan of Kanye West. "I like Kanye West," he said. "He makes great records. They are creative, amazing records."

So that's what it takes? That's the threshold now? Sampling someone else's music makes you a Zappa-Miles hybrid genius?

If you don't think Kanye West is a great producer then you are an idiot.

I get that people don't like him as a person or even as an MC, but in the hip hop production business he is as good it gets. The instrumentals don't lie.

Right. Like Elton is well versed in the work of Frank Zappa. Guess what, Reginald. Frank thought you suck.

I sh$t on Kanye A LOT, and deservingly so, but "All of the Lights" deserves all of the praise it gets. It is a masterful track. Kanye may be an egomaniacle idiot, but that idls a really really good song.

I don´t believe anyone´s saying he´s absolute crap, nor is good at his craft. Simply, he´s not a musician, and there are a plethora of people who do what he does. Some with more or less (decidedly less) success.

He´s good at what he does, but he´s no musician. He is a compiler and arranger.

I remember a Billy Joel interview on '60 Minutes' years ago, and he was asked the reasons for his success, and he answered (not a direct quote):

I'm competent.

I can read and write music.

I can write songs.

I can sing.

I can play my instrument.

You'd be surprised how many people in this business can't do those things.
