Ed Sheeran's syrupy, Grammy-winning single "Thinking Out Loud" is now at the center of two lawsuits.

The ginger troubadour was first sued over the hit song last year by the heirs of Edward Townsend, Jr., a co-writer of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On," which they claim "Thinking Out Loud" cribs from enough to warrant a lawsuit.

I would sue too. He took the chord structure from one of the greatest songs of all time and turned it into a cringeworthy teen bop.

Lol I don't care about Ed Sheeran but frick the Marvin Gaye camp and associates for suing every pop star who writes a song that sounds a little bit like his.

Marvin Gaye was fricking shot by his dad. If your family kills you they should lose the ability to mooch off of your talents are use you to make money after you're gone.

Can't argue with this

Did you even read the article? It's not Marvin Gaye's family who is doing this.

I am always leery of these suits.

1) there's so much music out there from the last 60 years that it is unlikely anyone is actually have "original" ideas

2) a lot of today's musical "artists" have been immersed in #1 their whole lives such that they may actually think it is original because they may not ever remember listening to the original.

Got a point there.

that's my biggest problem.

I wrote a song a couple weeks ago, thinking it was all straight from my dome. Listening to Pandora the other day, and half the song sounds just like a song I like from an artist I listen to a lot.

It’s some group I guarantee they have ties to.

Yeah-but the number of people who work on and hear a song before it's released... and no one recognizes "similarities" to other popular songs?

"Blurred Lines" was a straight rip off of "Got to Give it Up," as was "Uptown Funk" with "Oops Upside Your Head."

And thinking something is original doesn't make it original. If that was a defense to an infringement claim, then copyrights would be worthless.

This Ed Sheeran lawsuit, it seems like a patent troll type lawsuit.

Yet J. Geils never sued Kurt Cobain for cribbing his first hit song from Centerfold...then again, Smells Like Teen Spirit was a pretty good tune.

And Cobain would leave Sheeran at Sonic bleeding.

Well all Ed Sheeran has to do is turn around and sue Thomas Rhett for "Happy Man" as it is the exact same song as "Thinking out loud"....

That’s his second lawsuit. He’s also in one for writing the tim McGraw and faith hill song “for the rest of our lives”

Being able to sue over a chord progression is so goddamn stupid.

Yes, the chords and rhythm sound like "Let's Get It On", but the judge should order them to suck Ed Sheeran's red-freckled ballsack for suing for an amount that ridiculous. Greedy MF's.

Couldn’t care less but I will say the first time I heard that song I knew it was the “let’s get it on” back track

Was there any talk about this when he won the Grammy? Like you said, it's pretty obvious as soon as you listen to it.

When the Stones recorded Anybody Seen My Baby, Keith took a copy of the master home and was listening to it. His daughter said it similar to kd Lang's 'Constant Craving'. Keith told Mick and they gave kd credit as a co writer. The similarity is slight but they decided just to include her in/.

But there are just so many chords in music....

He had to name TLC as co writer in a song awhile back after he ripped off ‘no scrubs’
