How big a deal is it to repair slight belly bulge on an old acoustic dreadnought? Thanks

Another second to Fret Shack. Fanatical attention to detail.

What brand is the guitar, how old is it, and how big is the belly? Place a yardstick behind the bridge perpendicular to the strings atop the peak of the bulge. How big are the gaps between the ends of the yardstick and the guitar top at the guitar's outer edge? One-quarter inch on each side? One-half inch? More? Are the gaps roughly the same depth?

Some bellying can be expected with an older and/or cheaper guitar. It can sometimes be corrected via proper humidification ... with emphasis on "sometimes." I can often counteract or lessen the impact of bellying with saddle and/or bridge mods. The larger the bulge, the longer it has sat in that condition, the less hopeful your correction expectations should be.

On a related note: Bob Taylor with Taylor has excellent videos on YouTube that shows the hows and whys of guitar humidification and how to do it. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend everyone who owns an acoustic who knows nothing about guitar humidification or that is lax about applying it watch them.

I just can’t believe he chimes in before everyone else came in to sing his praises. Might be a slow day at his shop OP? Lol

He waited a respectable half hour or so.

When it comes to physical guitar advice, I'd listen to him more so than anyone else on TD.

I think his modesty will have him blushing at this. I haven't patronized the shop (BR is far for me, baws), so I can't speak to his practical ability , BUT, I can say, definitively, that he has forgotten more about the physical design, construction, set up and maintenance of guitars than the rest of the Music Board knows, combined.

At least the posters who contribute to such threads, anyway.

I definitely can. He did a substantial resto project for me and did a phenomenal job. I recommend him without reservation. (And I live in Colorado.)
