You do realize that Pat is once again nominated this year?
No guarantees for either but Pat does lead the fan vote right now. She should have been in years ago, but this is an odd way to phrase it.
But yes, overall the RnR HoF is a joke.
Fan Vote tally
Is Dolly nominated? YES
Is Pat still waiting to get in? YES
Thread title checks out !

Of the people & groups on that list, Fela Kuti is the most talented musician and had arguably the most impact. However, he's probably had the most controversial life than anyone else in that list and has a tiny shot of getting in.

Yea, I like rap and country, too. But if we're putting them into the ROCK AND ROLL HOF, then I can't wait to see Black Sabbath stand next to Run DMC in any such record books (is there a hip hop HOF?).

I'd just go Pat Benetar/Neil Geraldo and Duran Duran from that list.
I'm sure Rage will get in.

The R&R HOF being about R&R is like Jazz Fest being about jazz.

Carly Simon? She’s so vain she thinks the RnR HOF is about her.

Are RnR acts allowed in the HOF for other performing arts which claim to be specific to one genre?
Do Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull get into the Blues HOF?

Be Honest - how many people in the US had EVER heard of Fela Kuti before he was nominated???
I have been a music freak for over 50 years and never have heard of him.
But yes this is a total joke of a HOF. Ticks me off every year. And Pat deserves to be in!

Probably very little. A friend from college who is very much into Afro Pop introduced me to Fela and Femi. The genre is so driving and energetic that I'm surprised it's not more popular in the US.

No worries about Dolly OP. Posted a few hours ago by Dolly herself:
quote:
Dolly here! Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out. I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again - if I'm ever worthy. This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock 'n' roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock 'n' roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one. I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Rock on!

Dolly is a national treasure and should be in any HOF that wants her.
But yeah, I get what you are saying

Pat Benetar was asked by a reporter if she felt herself competing with Joan Jett to be the "tough gal" of rock n roll.
Pat: "No. Joan Jett talks tough. I'll beat your arse."

Dolly Parton is NOT rock & roll, and has never been.
Posted on 3/15/22 at 6:19 am to they call me horse
Pat Benatar is hotter than Dolly and she actually sang rock and roll music. She should be in, not dolly
