To say someone has bad taste you would have to understand why they appreciate a certain piece of music, art, food, etc. I can't stand the music my oldest daughter listens to, but it means something to her, which is good enough for me.
You're on roll.
+1 to this, and have an upvote.

It is necessary to have a universal baseline when saying someone has good or poor taste. And with the subjectivity of musical tastes, and the fact that we aren't the fricking Borg. . .NO SUCH BASELINE EXISTS.
When you say someone has shitty taste in music, you are really saying "You have shitty taste compared to what I subjectively consider to be good music."
Which is elitist (by definition) and fricktarded (by my understanding of the word).

Guys, there is good music and bad music, just like there are good movies and bad movies, just like there is good food and bad food.
It's ok.
It's ok.

But who determines what is good and bad? The internet? Rolling Stone? A collection of hipsters?
No. It's the individual listener.
Here's an example. Every rap fan I know loves Tupac. frickING WORSHIPS THE GUY. I think Tupac is shitty. Being a mature music aficionado, I understand that we can both be equally right. Because music is subjective to the listener.

He'll never answer that question. I've already asked him several times and he ignored it. Obvious troll.

Nobody does. It's just common sense. Who gets to decide if a movie is bad or not? A publication? A movie critic? Either way, it's just someone's opinion. If it's bad it's bad.

If your opinion is that it's "bad" then it is bad? WTF are you talking about? I think it's obvious that you are just talking in circular logic that makes zero sense, so let's just move on.

Poor writing, direction, and performance.
Same with music.

Jesus christ...
I think most men would find Jessica Alba attractive, they wouldn't say the same for Roseanne. Maybe a few dudes want to get in that, but most would say Alba is of a higher quality.
Same shite works with music, movies, etc. Better writing, non cliche lyrics, originality, makes for a higher quality. Theres nothing wrong with liking this stuff, but its more for a casual listener.
Furious 7 is probably entertaining and a solid popcorn flick, but is of a quality similar to No country for old men? Will it be worthy for best acting performances? No. At some point these things lose their subjectivity, and you can actually judge the quality. No one os saying you can't like Luke Bryan; but people that listen to music much harder understand he's not some musical genius. As a kid I was big on top 40 shite, because that's all I heard mainly outside of some Jimi and few other older artists. As I got older I expanded my library and realized there's a hell of a lot more to music than what's most popular. As I grew as a listener and a musician a better understand of the quality came about. Again, nothing wrong with staying in that bubble of top 40 hits, popcorn flicks and chain restaurants. It that makes the person happy good for them; but there's a lot more out there.

I agree.
But so?
So if artists start boosting their image to make more money, the music suffers. The people that are fans of the image don't care about the music and therefore have a poor taste in music, because their taste isn't in the music but the image.

Exactly. So if a person consistently likes music with these qualities then they have bad taste in music.
I don't know why people find this so hard. Hell, I like some bad music. Nothing wrong with that. But, if most everything you like is bad, then you have poor tastes.
There is good and bad in all genres. Good and bad in mainstream and unknown music.

Once again, I never once mentioned the word quality. This thread is not about quality but personal preferences, which is mutually exclusive from quality.
Now, who's on first again?

So I a persons personal preference is something that is exclusively substandard quality then they have bad taste.
Can you people not who are adamant about "music is subjective" not have a general idea of something being good quality even if you don't like it? Or recognize talent outside of your personal preference?
If I get up and start wailing on stage and someone decides they love my off key and talentless singing. Guess what, they have really, really shitty taste.
It works with all forms of art. You can tell which books have original effor and new ideas put into it and which ones are aimply copying older methods and putting out formulaic story structure because it is a simple to read and enjoyable for some people, who will purchase it. I read those books some times, and enjoy it for what it is. However if that was the only type of books I read and I didn't recognize what they were then I would have bad taste.
Having bad taste isn't a big deal.

Now you've essentially flipped your argument from where you started in the OP.
Your argument of most men finding Jessica Alba attractive is an appeal to popularity or consensus. But in the OP, you rail against popular music, and argue that people who prefer it have "poor taste".
