Well for people that do really love music not just look at it as something to dance to, etc... It's about quality over quantity. Most of what's on the radio isn't of the higher quality, certainly not from a technical standpoint. Music doesn't need to be complex to be great, but I find most of these radio songs to be so cliche and soulless. I don't care if people like this bro country hick hop shite; but I can tell you it's extremely dumbed down and filled with every cliche imaginable.
You mentioned that there is much more available, and that is true. But that's how I discover so many great artists trough mediums like spotify, or pandora or even from forums. And I don't just give it a listen and move on. If I dig the sound I'll be very thorough and take in the full album. I even search for reviews as to what is being highly regarded. The point is that I search for it, I don't stick to mainstream which is usually the same exact thing over and over. Blues is my thing and grabs me the most, but I dive into all kind of things. My influences as a musician is a wide variety. I dont stick to the basic wines, I test out others, and by doing so I expand my taste.

You have described yourself to be a music lover. I would say most music lovers have good taste in music, because they're truly interested in every detail. It is a passion.
I would say most people with poor taste are just "music likers" and just don't really care. They just lap up whatever mainstream radio throws at them. I would have said "music listeners" but I don't think they truly " listen" to the music.

A lot comes down to personality. Some people like what they like and stick with it. I don't see a problem with it, don't think their taste necessarily sucks, they just know what they like and stick with it, don't have the patience to dig for more.

What is so hard to understand about what I said?
Lyrically - Cliche as frick. Example with Country music, it follows the EXACT same topics every time. They must meet the typical topics which these writers include every time: Trucks, tailgating, beer, girls, dirt roads, etc
Musically - Nothing complex in the slightest. Basic.
Simple is fine, but its often soulless and cliche, easier to play and write. How do you not get what I am saying? If Florida Georgia Line of the same quality and talent as Jimi Hendrix? frick no.

All music is gay and people who like it are fricking stupid.

I'm gay as frick and dropped out in the 8th grade so that makes sense

It was composed, regurgitated, and was copy and pasted together in a factory called a "studio" by "artists". Most of what you hear on the radio seriously lacks intuitive thought and has very basic musicianship. It is not technically sound.

Most people have poor taste in most things. There's only a finite number of things a person cares enough to spend the time to develop good taste in something. For example, I have terrible taste in food. I know this, I just don't care. But in a conversation about best dishes, my opinion doesn't matter as much as people who are really interested in the topic.
Most people listen to music casually or passively. This leads to bad taste. It doesn't make them bad people, it just means they likely don't really care that much.

I think you'd have to define what good music taste is to begin with. Good luck with that.

Yes thats why top 40 stations are so popular.
They target the lowest common denominator

In rock/blues we have a few artists that are great in the mainstream, Jack White, John Mayer, and a handful of others, but St. Paul and the Broken Bones
I would not call Jack White mainstream at all. How many songs have you heard on the radio other than Seven Nation Army? The Black Keys are on the radio much more and have much more of a "mainstream sound", especially their last album.

The White Stripes had three platinum records and a gold record. Jack White's most recent album debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts. If he's not mainstream, no one is.

It's good to see someone with actual talent get the recognition they deserve

I covered that part. What I like people might not like, that's fine. I'm referring to those that never look outside of the bubble that is the mainstream; lack of taste or lack of passion for music?
That doesn't equate to "poor taste." What you said refers to someone who is stubborn and closed-minded.

This is not true. There is good, bad and mediocre music. Just like there is good, bad and mediocre food.
False.
There can be people who genuinely think that a Flordia Georgia Line song sounds better than a Led Zeppelin song. While it's an unpopular opinion, we are all different. If that person enjoys that unpopular song more, then so be it. That does not make the song/artist bad in his eyes, even if you and most of the world despises them. It may be a specific beat of a bass drum, sound of a voice, or chord of a guitar that simply sounds better to them. You can't tell someone that what sounds good to them is bad. That just makes no sense.
