First of all Unchained Melody is the greatest song ever written. Which was written for a cheapo movie. And then the righteous brothers covered it like 10 years later in 1965 which i guess when it got big

but elvis' big song "I can't help falling in love with you" from 1961 has like nearly the same melody and the same talk about rivers in the lyrics (which is the worst part of unchained melody) but then the wikipedia about the elvis song admits its a ripoff of some 1700's french song on the melody

So did the guy who wrote unchained melody rip off the 1700s french song guy and then the guy who wrote elvis' song rip off both?

btw there is nothing on the internet about this i googled it first

and elvis did unchained melody in 1977 after it was a big song.

He covered Unchained Melody and gives the guys credit.

His Unchained Melody live in 1977 is the best rendition there is. I get chills when I watch that performance.

The Righteous Brothers original is bad arse too and much cleaner than Elvis’s performances but as much emotion you hear and feel from the Righteous Brothers version, Elvis amplifies that much more. That’s my opinion anyway

I meant like can't help falling in love with you is basically the same melody and half the same lyrics for two songs that were popular at the same time frame

maybe the cultural memory wasn't there with no way to have it in your hand besides records but the lyrics are nearly the same and the melodies are near identical

and I swear when you google this all that comes up is ranking which one is better not like hey this is the same song basically

Why would you think that there's no debate over a topic like this?

Unchained Melody wouldn't even be in my top 100...and I love a shitload of older music.

I'll never hear that song and not think of that cheesy scene from Ghost.

I'm not a big fan of 50s music, except for Jazz and Bossa Nova. But I'd take pretty much any song written by Tom Jobim in the late 50s/early 60s over Unchained Melody.

I also like Moonlight In Vermont, Far Away Places(Dean Martin version), Walk , Don't Run, and probably at least half of the Great American Songbook more than that song.

I didn't hate it until Ghost came out and it got really popular again. But I've never really liked any Righteous Brothers songs very much. It's just not my kind of music.
