They got a lot of punk and new wave shows around the same time. The Sex Pistols played here on their only U.S. tour, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., the Police (think the latter two played at the Bayou)

REM played The Bayou. The Police played at The Kingfish.

Yes these shows/venues were in the that same time frame, mid to late 70's. I saw many great shows at the Kingfish, but as a "Rocker", I had no interest in Punk Rock. At the time we thought it sucked balls. Looking back, I can appreciate it's significance.

Back to the original topic, that Pink Floyd ticket cost a whopping $8.50.

That's crazy isn't it? I think the Led Zeppelin show that same year was $11.

Zep ticket was still below $10. Everybody got really pissed when Fleetwood Mac wanted $10..........I didn't go.

Now that I think of it, it may have been less than PF. I just remember when I was packing up to move last time, I found all my old ticket stubs and was shocked at how cheap those concerts were.

A little off topic...

This was Pigs on the Wing/Dogs from Roger Waters' In the Flesh '99-2000 tour.

LINK

I have to say Jon Carin did a great job with Dogs. Jon Carin is one hell of a unique guy. He's turned into a masterful utility guy for all things Floyd.

He's managed to be the singular musician that has worked on multiple Floyd, Gilmour and Waters projects and tours - crossing frigid lines that were seemingly uncrossable. I guess talent trumps conflict every time.

I'd say Jon Carin certainly has a future at being a centerpiece of a Pink Floyd tribute super group whenever all members of the Floyd quit touring for good if he ever chooses to do so.

Speaking of Floyd tribute bands - did you know that Floyd tribute band business collectively generates $30M-$40M of revenue annually by itself? I'm talking strictly tribute band business. That's insane.

Back to Carin, here's what he's been involved in related to Floyd over the years. It's quite the wide range of activities.

quote:

collaborator as a musician and writer on the sessions for Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason album

He then participated in the support tour for the album, performing alongside returning keyboardist Richard Wright, and appeared on the 1988 Pink Floyd double live album, Delicate Sound of Thunder

In 1992, Carin participated in the recording of the soundtrack for La Carrera Panamericana

Two years later, in 1994, Carin contributed programming and additional keyboards to Pink Floyd's The Division Bell album. He also participated on The Division Bell support tour and was featured on the Pulse CD and DVD.

Throughout the summers of the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was on tour with former Pink Floyd bassist, Roger Waters, for his In the Flesh tour.

He performed with Pink Floyd at their reunion with Roger Waters on July 2, 2005, for Live 8 at Hyde Park.

He played with David Gilmour in the 2006 tour, in support of On an Island.

From June 2006, he played on Roger Waters The Dark Side of the Moon Live tour, with dates in 2007 and 2008.

On 10 May 2007, Carin was one of the performers at the Syd Barrett tribute concert, "Madcap's Last Laugh", at the Barbican Centre in London, performing with Roger Waters and - separately - the members of Pink Floyd (billed as Rick Wright, David Gilmour and Nick Mason)

Carin performed with Roger Waters and Eddie Vedder for the "12/12/12" Hurricane Sandy benefit concert.

He performed with Roger Waters tour "The Wall 2010–2013 Live" on keyboards, guitars, lap steel, and programming.

He then contributed to David Gilmour’s Rattle That Lock album, playing keyboards.

Carin performed with David Gilmour on his Rattle That Lock World Tour 2015–16.

In 2016, he performed with Roger Waters on a short tour of Mexico, then at Desert Trip in Coachella.

He is currently on tour with Roger Waters on his Us & Them world tour.

I've seen Australian Floyd before and they were great. Brit Floyd is coming to ATL later this month and I'm considering going. I've heard those are 2 of the frontrunners in the "PF covers/tribute band" genre, can anyone compare the 2? Is there much of a difference?

you can certainly take a look on youtube and judge for yourself the quality of each's performance.

I've heard both are good as well. I have heard good things about a group called "The Machine" but have never heard their performance.

ETA: Here's The Machine performing Comfortably Numb live. Pretty good I'd say.

And here's Brit Floyd's Comfortably Numb's version. Obviously a much bigger stage production. And nice group of backup singers.

The pro-shot video of The Wall tour is out there in bootleg land. It’s not completely professionally edited but it’s pretty good if you want to see the show. It’s pretty cool.

Have you ever checked out the website Yeeshkul? It’s a torrent sharing site of audio/video recordings of all things Floyd as well as other artists but primarily pf centric.

There is some wildly good quality stuff and ultra rare stuff available there. Apparently a fairly newly surfaced version of the 80-71 pro shot of The Wall show made its way there. I haven’t seen it yet but plan to soon.

It’s been a while since I’ve been there. I Was a Usenet junkie for a long time and got most of my boots from there. I was in a private surround sound forum for a while and we traded stuff.

I had tons of Floyd boots. The Animals tour had the best-sounding boots, particularly the Oakland show and Roar’s End from Montreal (or was it Ontario? It was the last one they played on that tour).

If he had a big role in the us and them tour, then kudos to him. That was one of the best produced shows I’ve ever been to as far as visuals and sound quality. So glad I went. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to seeing an actual Pink Floyd show.

I did, wasn't much of a pink Floyd fan until then

That was exactly my experience. I had never purchased a Pink Floyd LP prior to that show. Afterward, I bought most of the ones they had released by that time period. Animals was my favorite because it had been most featured in the Baton Rouge show.

I later lost interest in them but would have gone to see them perform live no matter what. Unfortunately, I never saw them live, again.

For contrast, I also attended the Led Zeppelin show in Baton Rouge during that same time frame. Zep was one of my favorite bands. I thought their live show sucked.
