Lately I've been interested in the Florida death metal bands. I've started with Cannibal Corpse, I love the riifs, speed and drums, I just can't get past the vocals right now. Did anyone else have this issue?

Cookie Monster vocals are a deal breaker for me.

You get used to it. Listen to some crappy bands for a better perspective of Corpsegrinder's talent. There is such a thing as good and bad cookie monster vocals. Also try bands that don't do that like Death or Obituary.

New Orleans sludge is better.

"Try Kill Or Become" or "Scourge the Iron" by CC for starters if you haven't already.

So true. Most people surely think they’re all the same and just garbage but he is clearly one if the very best.
Funny timing as I just saw them here in Jax two nights ago and they were fantastic once again.
Alex was hanging out afterward and I talked to him for a good five minutes or so. I swear he just might be the nicest guy in metal. They’re all super cool and down to earth. “Normal” people would take one look at them though and consider it impossible for them to actually be friendly.

Good recs for sure as well as “Evisceration Plague”. My favorite song of theirs and always the first one I recommend to one who hasn’t heard them yet.

I'm not sure what subgenre of rock/metal these bands are, but I've giving these a lot of plays lately:
Meshuggah
Parkway Drive
Devildriver
Veil of Maya
Animals as Leaders
Periphery

I had this same problem years and years ago. You will get used to it. Im to the point now where if I can understand the guy...it isn’t heavy enough.
If you want some real brutal stuff check out the metal subgenre- “Slam”. The who point of slam is to be as low, brutal, and dark as possible. You can find good stuff on youtube. Check out the channel “Slam Worldwide”.
CC vocals ain’t that bad compared to those guys.

Isn't there a death metal band that has a parrot as it's lead singer?
