has to be my favorite Bowie track and one of my favorite 10+ minute songs ever.
Yep

All the background stuff on that album about him in LA just snorting mountains of cocaine and basically going totally insane is pretty interesting stuff

Got into like Nazism and crazy black magic and shite and lost a ton of weight just doing coke all day every day for months

Yeah he said for a couple of months all he consumed was cocaine, cayenne peppers, water, and milk

Eta: and he was paranoid that Jimmy Page was going to find him and give him to black magic

Quicksand is my favorite Bowie song...

I'm closer to the Golden Dawn
Immersed in Crowley's uniform Of imagery
I'm living in a silent film
Portraying Himmler's sacred realm Of dream reality

Tell me where were the spiders?

He also wrote song s for other musicians.

Starman

Lyrics: Goodbye love
Didnt know what time it was the lights were low oh how
I leaned back on my radio oh oh
Some cat was layin down some rock n roll lotta soul, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade a ade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase ha hase
That werent no d.j. that was hazy cosmic jive

Theres a starman waiting in the sky
Hed like to come and meet us
But he thinks hed blow our minds
Theres a starman waiting in the sky
Hes told us not to blow it
Cause he knows its all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

I had to phone someone so I picked on you ho ho
Hey, thats far out so you heard him too! o o
Switch on the tv we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light a ight
If we can sparkle he may land tonight a ight
Dont tell your poppa or hell get us locked up in fright

Theres a starman waiting in the sky
Hed like to come and meet us
But he thinks hed blow our minds
Theres a starman waiting in the sky
Hes told us not to blow it
Cause he knows its all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

Starman waiting in the sky
Hed like to come and meet us
But he thinks hed blow our minds
Theres a starman waiting in the sky
Hes told us not to blow it
Cause he knows its all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

He also hung out with Iggy Pop in Berlin for a few years. He said it almost killed him.

ETA: who is the song Ziggy Stardust about?

Yep

I'm listening to the entire Space Oddity album.

Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

I had no idea it was released in 1969.

ETA: can you answer my question?

Hint: Read the lyrics. I was only 7 when it was released.

Come on Kafka.

Oh
Oooh yeah
Ah
Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with weird and gilly
And the spiders from mars. he played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were ziggy's band

Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from japan, he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
They came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.

So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just the beer light to guide us,
So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands?

Oh
Ooh oh

Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were voodoo
The kids were just crass, he was the nazz
With god given arse
He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar

Making love with his ego ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man i had to break up the band.

Oh yeah
Ooooooo
Ziggy played guitaarrrrrr

ETA: Not one of your best, but you are the funniest poster on this board.

This isn't a joke

quote:

Odam has continued recording intermittently since "Paralyzed" and released several albums and singles. "I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship" was covered by longtime fan David Bowie on his Heathen album. Odam returned the compliment by recording his version of "Space Oddity". Bowie himself has said that the term "stardust" in "Ziggy Stardust" is taken from The Legendary Stardust Cowboy

Apparently they were both signed to Mercury records, and the label sent Bowie some of its recent releases. That's when DB heard "Paralyzed" and decided to pay The Ledge a little tribute.

Am I the only fan of his hard rock project Tin Machine? I wore this one out when it was released.
They had a second release but it sounded a little more polished and pop at times.

Crack City

Bus Stop

Video Crime

David Bowie's haunting rendition of Simon and Garfunkel's America after 9/11.
