Which is exactly my point. Clearchannel took over most of the radio stations in the 2000's
Musical tastes are pretty cyclical. Tastes moved heavily towards bubblegum R&B and Rap in the late 90's. This continued heavily into the 2000's.
Were it not for Creed and Nickelback, and bands like them, Rock would have faded from the airwaves. You can blame Clearchannel, but they are a business. They give their consumers what they want. They didn't get as big as they are by offering their consumers something they didn't want.
Nickelback had enough mainstream appeal to keep rock music on the radio during that period, which I appreciate.

As far as cyclical musical tastes, right now is the time tastes generally move towards Rock. . .as R&B and Rap are falling out of favor. But sadly, there needs to be a new mainstream group to usher in the era. . .i.e. Nirvana. If such a band does not arrive, the vacuum will be filled by something else.

Both band are the epitome of success using lowbrow music. Many are attracted to lowbrow entertainment (WWE, Jerry Springer, etc...)
Many consider themselves music aficionado's, which highlights the tactics used for success by these acts as garbage

When I was growing up, Black Sab and and Grand Funk were the bands loved by the masses and hated by the critics. So now Sabbath is in the R 'n R HOF. Don't think we'll see Creed or NB there—no slam on my part, I don't give a shite about either band, although Scott Stapp-as-Jesus was amusing back in the day.

See, I don't listen to the radio for anything other than sporting events and PBR because of that. Rock music is as strong as ever right now, it's just that they have shifted their focus away from record industry control, thus radio airplay.

There are good bands making good music, but if you think rock is stronger now than in the 60's, 80's, and early 90's. . .
I don't know what to tell you.

The rock music being made today is every bit as good as it was in any era of music. There is actually WAY MORE good music out there by way of information sharing. However, it doesn't receive airplay. That doesn't mean it isn't good or doesn't exist. It just means that it is not within the corporate clearchannel mold.

The Rock Hall of Fame is 100% crap. No Rush No Care.

I actually think its those bands popularity that has lead to rock falling off the airwaves. If the average, casual listener thinks "rock" and thinks bands that lousy, they tend to write off the whole genre.
