It has went down hill imo. Alot of good country stars and songs in the 80s and 90s,but now it's trash. Nothing but redneck music that's not even country music. And people can't "sing" anymore. I think they just try to please the younger, immature crowd now

Hit the nail on the head brother. They are just trying to please their target audience, so they make crappy music like that. I don't blame them really.

Country music today is written towards the lowest common denominator. Let's just say the bar is set at ankle level.

Country music today is awesome. The good version of it isn't on the radio.

Lot of good stuff from the early to mid 2000's too

But to correct you, "Mainstream" country is god awful. But there's a lot of good country music out there today.

Look into Red Dirt and Outlaw Country.
Specific singers to look into, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, John Moreland.

The question I have is will it ever get better? Country music seemed to adopted by disco in the early 80s and sucked until guys like george strait, Alan Jackson, Clint black, etc revived it in the 90s. These days with people not listening to the radio, and seeking out sturgill Simpson, Jason isabell, turnpike troubadours, etc online, will there ever be decent country on the radio in the future?

Let's not forget Dwight Yoakam when talking about the 80's old school revival.

But yes, today's mainstream country is cliche-driven shite.

You're just listening to the wrong stuff. Here's a tip....EVERYTHING you see on TV or hear on the radio is garbage. People who play in bars are generally good

I've read in a couple of places recently that Bro Country is dying. I can only hope it is but I sure don't know if it is or not. Florida Georgia Line can DIAF on I-95 at the FGL as far as I'm concerned. Problem with an artist like Luke Bryan is that females will keep eating that crap up. So many of the 'new' artists all sound the same to me. The Countrypolitan sound that was so prevalent in the mid 60's thru the late 70's eventually died out so I hope there is hope.
