Mighty Mighty Bosstones in '96 at Howlin' Wolf in NOLA.
Tickets weren't sold for the concert. It was invite only as there was a big record company convention in the city and most of the attendees had passes.
We had no tickets and were hanging out in alley back stage. All of a sudden a back door opened, and this gravelly voice said "Hey kids, in here." It was Dickey from the Bosstones and he snuck us in.
Crazy scene back stage...big buffet. The Cardigans were in a corner doing a photo shoot.
Dickey shot the shite with us for a few then got us to a door that lead to the show floor. Will always like that band just for that.

My first concert:
June 27, 1985, Omaha World Slavery Tour
Iron Maiden with Acceot opening. Holy shite what a way to start Maiden at their height of glory with a killer stage show. Accept is woefully underrated and a killer metal band.

I don’t really brag but I get the gist. I used to see a ton of concerts when I was young. Got lucky enough to see a few greats.
Pantera - 1988-89 in a dive bar in Sherman, TX. I was 16. We snuck in and no one really cared.
U2 - Joshua Tree tour
Miles Davis - Norman , OK 1989
Janes Addiction - first Lollopollooza
Nirvana - Bomb Factory Dallas 1992
HORDE Tour - Phish, Panic, ARU, Blues Traveler
Phish - 5/7/94 Tweezerfest.
Classic show among Phish fans and there were probably 250 people in attendance.
1st Bonnaroo - whole weekend was a great vibe

So much about this for me to reply to. I saw Maiden on the Slavery tour too (with WASP opening though) in Biloxi and New Orleans. Incredible shows no doubt. Then I didn’t see them again UNTIL......
32 years later when working in Omaha!!

And Accept is actually high up on my list of great shows I tell folks about. My favorite band for a number of years in the early-to-mid 80’s. Saw ‘em twice in 84, opening for BOC in New Orleans and Ozzy in Biloxi. But best of all, saw em in August of 85 headlining at The Saenger in New Orleans. Still to this day one of the greatest concerts I’ve ever seen.

Lollapalooza 93
Rage Against the Machine opened up, Tool was second act, also featured Fishbone, Arrested Development, Dinosaur Jr., Alice in Chains and Primus
I believe it was 92, Faith No More, Metallica and Guns n Roses in the Superdome.

Ozzy with Randy Rhoads (and a few months later, Ozzy with temp replacement Brad Gillis)
Van Halen during the Fair Warning tour
Rush during the Moving Pictures tour
The ARMS concert for Ronnie Lane, featuring Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck
Stevie Ray Vaughan in Austin, TX
King Crimson with this lineup: Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Bill Bruford
The Kinks when Ray and Dave Davies were still a band
I was too young to see Yes at their peak, so Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Howe was the next best thing (Jeff Berlin on bass)
Andrés Segovia (he was already in his 90s)

Damn, the holy grail. Was coming to BR but Ossie Brown got it shelved. If I remember correctly, a short time later Randy died.

Yep. Two and a half weeks later.
I never ever forgave Brown for that crap.
I’m actually going to be in Leesburg where the plane crashed tomorrow for work. Planning a little side trip if time allows.

A friend and I drove out to California in '89 to attend music school and side tripped out to his burial site. It really still bums me out completely thinking about what could have been.

Holy shite they’ve still got it live.
Agree I saw them twice on Book of Souls Tour at Tulsa at start of tour and then in KC just a night or two after they played Lincoln. Best got to take my 9 year old to KC to see the legends. I agree about Accept even today without Udo they are damn good. Hell Fast as a Shark all but kicked off Speed Metal.

RHCP @Voodoo 2006 (Got to see Frusciante)
RATM @Voodoo 2007
I don't live in Louisiana so a lot of my friends weren't at these shows.

Stones 73, 78 and 81 real gritty and raw.
The Who (three of the members anyway) 89, still pretty good
McCartney 90 and believe it or not 2011.
ELO 1977

Prince back in the day on his Controversy tour
I can't imagine what it must've been like in the days before Prince got Michael Jackson-level huge with Purple Rain. I didn't live in that time period, but from what I've read and investigated, Prince started to get big in the American consciousness in the spring/summer of 1983 when Little Red Corvette became his first top 10 pop hit, he and Vanity made the cover of Rolling Stone (his first Rolling Stone cover) that April, then the 1999 single reissue became a top 20 hit that summer. Prince was/is always loved by rock critics but maybe you could provide some insight on Prince's popularity pre-Purple Rain from a national perspective during the 1981-83 years since you lived through that. Would be fascinating to read if you could/would.
