Clutch In BR Tonight

With the hard freeze warning starting at 6PM I'm concerned my trip there and especially my drive home will be slick. Called the Varsity and the show is going as planned.
First band 8-845, second 9-945, then Clutch at 10. Wish it was earlier due to the freeze.
Anyone need four tix? Lol
I'm thinking I don't want to risk it.

I'm going. If I gotta walk there, I'm going. Not just because tickets were 30 bucks but because this is Boring Rouge and it might be another fricking six months before we get a decent rock show again.

Where do you live? If anywhere nearby I highly recommend you DO NOT miss it. Just do whatever it takes man. Gonna be fantastic.

Man in St Aug The Obsessed started at 6:30 and Clutch finished about 10. That was the one drawback to the outdoor setting.

I just posted on the OT about it, but then thought the Music Board might have already discussed..
If I call an Uber tonight, will the driver skid off the road somewhere and kill me?

Did he throw any of his Oedipus references out there?

No mostly his typical bathroom humor (chipotle for dinner.....)
But was so good. Supercrush and March of the Poozers had the place rocking.
There were dozens right up front that had NO CLUE who he was. And several were talking and asking me like “holy shite.. this guy is incredible... Who IS this band???”

Yeah Devin killed it. Most people didn’t like the Obsessed but I like them and that stoner metal.

Devin was pretty good but I've already seen SYL. He can't top that. Not as much a fan of the proggy stuff but the last two songs he played brought the house down. When he said the last song was about love I was hoping it would actually be Love.

Love? is about coitus, though.

They were decent, but his guitar solos never seemed to fit into the context of the songs. Maybe that's what he's going for, but it just didn't come together.

The dude in the teal softshell jacket right up front, stage left was me.
Only Devin Townsend could take songs about his scrotum and turn it into art bordering on a religious experience, haha.
I had only heard some of his stuff with Steve Vai, so I had no idea what I was getting into.
As for the Obsessed, they were right up my ally, but the lead guitar player could have been a little better. I really loved the tone the bassist was getting out of his rig. That’s exactly the tone my bassist and I have been trying to figure out how to produce.
Clutch was awesome. Their front man just bleeds energy and it makes the whole thing really work for me. Nothing any individual in that band does musically is all that remarkable, but it’s so tight, so well balanced. It’s a band that is clearly greater than the sum of its parts. Just a fantastic show all the way around.

You need to watch more of Jean Paul Gaster's drumming. He's one of my favorite drummers to watch. I saw him play drums with Wino's solo band when they opened for Clutch and it is one of the best live drum performances I've ever seen.
Good that you liked the show. Maybe now you'll stop listening to radio rock and see that the genre is alive and well.

My issue isn’t that there isn’t good music. When I say rock is dead, i mean in reference to popular culture and terrestrial radio. Of course pop culture sucks. I just wish radio would play more stuff like what I heard last night and less crap from 60 different indie hipster “alt” bands all trying to out-Coldplay each other.
