They kicked arse.

I was stoned as shite when Big Business was on. Whoever was behind me taking about seeing Pantera, Shadows Fall, and Deftones before Clutch came out...thank you sincerely. It was good hearing those old concert names and such pop up.

Them biker baws with the DOWN tshirts on went in dry in that place. AND the pit was very much active. Some 5 footer with a Fedora was thrown out and got very mad. And made a fool of himself.

Pretty sure that was me and my cousin talking about those bands. Talking about them was infinitely more interesting than Big Business. Didn’t see first band. Didn’t care for Big Business either. Clutch lit the place on fire though.

Music like what Big Business plays is not going to appeal to everybody but holy shite they were loud and intense. The drummer was amazing.

Last show sold out. I'm surprised ticket sales are so low this time. Maybe because its a Sunday. Might be a parade or something in New Orleans that night too.

Last show also had Devin Townsend Project splitting the billing, so that brought in a bunch of people who wouldn't normally be a Clutch crowd.

Devin isn't a draw in this country. They didn't sell any extra tickets because he was opening.

I'm disappointed they didn't play Earth Rocker or Spacegrass.

That's demonstrably false. He isn't the draw here that he is in Europe, but he absolutely brought more fans than Clutch's typical touring partners.

When's the last time he's done a headline tour? I saw SYL in 2005, probably the height of their popularity, and they were only third on the lineup behind Fear Factory and Soilwork. Devin doesn't even play the big festivals. The last few times he's been to New Orleans has been as an opener as well.

He an Between the Buried and Me did a co-headlining tour about a year before the Clutch tour. Saying that he didn't bring any fans to the Clutch tour is asinine, though. He absolutely had fans there who weren't interested in Clutch. I wanted to see both, but had several friends who left about 3-4 songs into the Clutch set because they weren't digging it.

I'm not sure why you need to turn it into a controversy.

I like Devin too but if he could sell tickets he would do his own headline tours not open for other bands. He doesn't seem to tour that often either, at least compared to Clutch who's constantly on the road. I think he prefers being in the studio.

Ha! Seriously? I could barely make out any of the lyrics, much less glean a song title. Did they say the title as an intro? I have no idea.

I didn’t catch hardly shite they said. Probably something I would enjoy more listening on a CD for the first time than live.

Man all I can say is the Varsity was everything I could’ve hoped for and more. This was my fourth time seeing Clutch and for sure my favorite of them all, and the crowd was a large factor in that. Absolutely brought it from the moment they hit the stage. Neil seemed pretty appreciative of it too.

What a blast.

Intro and Noble Savage last night

Agreed. We are very lucky to have the Varsity. It always delivers. I wish we had other venues like it.

Dude you had to have been really close to me while filming that. I was by the stage right side just to the left of the stairs about 3 people deep.

Damn. Sure was yeah? I’m too old for the mosh pit now but still like to hang out on the fringes of it. Man that thing got going the moment they started playing. Awesome crowd.

They literally played half the new album. Was still killer though.
