Duane IMO and it's not that close, but several of my friends feel different.
So I ask the all knowing music board, who's better?

Clapton for me
Their work on the Layla album is absolutely breathtaking, my favorite album of all time.

Duane is the goat on the slide.

No need to pick a "best". It's a matter of opinion and whatever an individual listener likes.

Between these two, I like Clapton better. Let me know when you're ready to talk about SRV. Sacrilegious to mention him in the same breath as the aforementioned two. Yes - you heard it right.

quote:Americans traditionally love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxers... Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.

No. Duane is better.

Duane.
Clapton is great, but I've never heard any of his live stuff that comes even close to Duane.

Duane may be better, but I'd rather listen to Clapton

I prefer Skydog. But Clapton is better

Clapton...for sure.
Every band the man was in became legendary. That's not an accident.
Yardbirds
Cream
Blind Faith
Delaney and Bonnie
Derek and the Dominoes
Solo
There's also a reason he's the only 3 time inductee in the HOF (Solo, Cream and Yardbirds).
Duane may have passed Clapton up, if he hadn't had his life and career cut short way too soon.

Duane was probably more talented but didn't live long enough to do all the things Clapton has done. I'm not a huge Allman brothers guy but I probably would be if he would have lived longer.

This! and dont forget about his Bluesbreakers album with John Mayall (the Beano album)
Legendary tone with some incendiary guitar playing.
