Newsboys dropped from label after investigations into claims of sexual assault by Michael Tait

Capitol Christian Music Group drops rock group after former singer was accused of sexually assaulting three men

Last January, Tait was accused by a former colleague on TikTok of being secretly gay. The following day, Tait stepped down as Newsboys singer, offering little explanation. Six months later, the Christian media site the Roys Report revealed allegations that Tait had sexually assaulted two young men while secretly abusing cocaine and alcohol. This was followed by Tait confessing in a post published on Instagram that he’d been living “a double life”, and had, at times, “touched men in an unwanted, sensual way”.

Third Day. They really made it big when they went mostly worship songs, but their first few albums were rock.

MXPX

Played foosball with Skillet when I was in highschool and they were just getting started. There’s a signed skillet somewhere in my parents’ basement.

Newsboys should always have an Australian accent in my mind.

Rumors of some of the Tait stuff were floating around way back in the DC Talk days.

Peter Furler and Phil Joel are the classic Newsboys that everyone refers to.

I’ll admit I’m also a huge Michael Tait fan, but I condemn those actions in the highest possible sense. I appreciated his apology and I hope he continues to work on himself spiritually on this road to grace that we all travel along.

I saw a Kansas video at the pizza joint this weekend and nobody I was with new they were a Christian band

I think they are more in the same vein as U2. Major Christian overtones without being a Christian band.

Paramaecium's Exhumed of the Earth is a banger.

I also like Living Sacrifice's Reborn.

Phil Joel came later. John James was lead vocals throughout all the classic 90s albums. not sure what you consider "classic" Newsboys, but for me it matches up exactly with the John James time period:

Read All About It (1988)
Hell Is for Wimps (1990)
Boys Will Be Boyz (1991)
Not Ashamed (1992)
Going Public (1994)
Take Me to Your Leader (1996)

There is no such thing as Christian Rock. Just regular rock, with Christian lyrics.

That's like saying what is your favorite Love Rock Bands or Political Rock Bands.

Music is not categorized by the lyrics. (or at least shouldn't be)

I agree with this, but i think the term "Christian rock" is used interchangeably with "Christian rock band". there are definitely Christian rock bands, but they are Christian bands and also rock bands. Christian is describing the band, not the style of music. but yes, this has always annoyed me too.
