Among the long-lived Christian bands, Third Day was probably the most legitimate in the sense that you could see them surviving as a secular, solid, regional alt/rock act in the late 90s/2000s if they'd made a go at it.

Very few others would have any chance. Once indie folk came around, you've got a number of Christian acts that have crossover appeal, but most of them are smaller and arguably aren't "Christian music" considering they don't get much in the way of radio traction (Beta Radio, etc.)

Catching up on the thread, I almost typed out this same response.

my favorite version was with Peter Furler and Phil Joel

Definitely. We played "Breakfast" on Wednesday nights for the youth group over and over...and over...

Wow, I loved this song. Haven't heard it or thought about it in years. Gonna pull it up and have a listen today.

There was so much great music back then. Wow. Not only from the obvious bands like Third Day/Newsboys/D.C. Talk, but lesser known bands like Bleach and Luna Halo had some great songs...

I haven't listened to either album in a decade or two, but I probably could sit down and write out the lyrics to DC Talk's Free at Last album and Newsboys' Take me to your leader.

Steven Curtis Chapman should be added to this thread. He's Christian music's George Strait in terms of longevity.

Old's OK - but how about something newer. Couple years back when I was on the praise team we did many of these on more than one occasion.

Here's ya two Christian songs from Israel by David Loden (. . . Messianic's)

Adonai Machesenu - The Lord is Our Refuge... &... (@ 4:27) Haruach Vehakala - The Spirit and the Bride

... which moved a few in the pews

(of course) there was also good ole Paul Wllbur - Let the weight of your glory fall

(the original) Clint Brown version - Breathe On Me

and everyone does - Jesus Culture feat. Kim Walker-Smit - Unstoppable Love

and

Chris Tomlin /Kari Jobe - Revelation Song

Lauren Daigle has some good stuff.

Check out “Still Rolling Stones”. Reminds me of a Christian Adele.
