“Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns"

Along with Shine, the debut EP by
Mother Love Bone was released on this day 1989.
Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns
This was the only compilation of recordings to be released during singer, Andrew Wood's lifetime.
Fun Fact- "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" is actually two songs sequenced together. "Crown of Thorns" is found by itself on the band's sole studio album, Apple(1990).
Director Cameron Crowe used the song in his 1989 film “Say Anything…” but it didn’t make it onto the film's accompanying soundtrack release.
Crowe rightly corrected this three years later when he made it the centrepiece of the soundtrack to his 1992 film “Singles.”
Wood himself never experienced the astonishing global impact his city and friends had on the world in the coming years.
His tragic death one year after the release of the Shine EP (almost to the day, March 19th, 1990.
Out of his passing grew so much life-affirming music. Pearl Jam and Temple Of The Dog might never have existed, nor songs like Alice In Chains “Would?” which Jerry Cantrell wrote about his fallen friend.
They would refine their sound even more with their debut album, Apple, in 1990, further shedding the ’80s sound and, in doing so, becoming the bridge between what came before and what was to come.
This is why I’ve always said that Mother Love Bone was the bridge from Hair to Grunge. They were Pivotal.
All lyrics are written by Andrew Wood; all music is composed by Jeff Ament, Bruce Fairweather, Greg Gilmore, Stone Gossard, and Wood

What a great song (the original). Easily my favorite from that era.

That was a nice cover. Definitely added his own sound to it. I liked it. I would have been very excited to hear it if I was in that audience.

I owe the man some money
So I’m turnin’ over, honey
Hmmm…always wondered about this lyric.

Andy Wood was one of the most promising up and coming artists of his era. It's sad to think of what could have been, but what he did give the music world is right up there with the best to come out at that time and later.

He's done a lot of Pearl Jam songs.
Wow!! I’ve never paid any attention to Billy Strings but that was impressive. He’s got a great voice.

Fantastic soundtrack. I was in my young college years when all this great music came out in the early 90s. Now I’m that old dude, “back in my day they made real music!”

Pearl Jam played this in 2013 in Dallas.
I lost my shite. Some shite I had hanging around from 19 years old. I lost all of it.
I wonder how far they could have gone? Had Wood not OD’d would they have become something or just been another Screaming Trees?

Speaking of covers, MLB has some live stuff out and there and their cover of Queen’s I’m in Love with My Car is interesting.
