No news sites have officially confirmed anything yet, but a bunch of Texas Country Music accounts have been posting this.

RIP to a very talented Texas songwriter. Big fan of him and especially his brother Bruce.

Had the pleasure of meeting Charlie several times, doing load in/load outs for their band when they played shows in BR while I was in college. RIP, he was a good dude.

Crushed hearing this…a pioneer among numerous excellent Texas songwriters/performers in the late 90s/early 00s

I’ll give the Gruene Hall live record a spin later on…RIP Charlie

ETA: My 1st grader asked to add “Feelin Good” to her car playlist a few weeks ago, got to hear it on the way to BR today

He lived half a mile from me. Son went to the same high school I graduated from (he graduated a couple years ago)

Got to see him a couple months back after he started playing again. Super glad I did. He is one of the GOATs

Always loved this song. Actually that entire album is fantastic. So sad. Leaves behind four children, including a three year old son.

You are blessed to live in Bandera. What made him start touring (locally) again? I thought his voice was permanently damaged from an operation.

Loved Charlie. Very sad news. I’m playing some of his tunes and cheered a beer to him in the sky.

Sadness. Too young.
Damn it folks, if you have something to offer the world, get your arse in gear.
You are dying every day.

I wish I lived in bandera. Although he grew up there he had a house on Wiltshire in Terrell hills in San Antonio. His wife the Dixie chick lives in olmos park which is about a mile from from Charlie’s place. His son was a really good baseball player. Probably will see him at the local bar in a couple years and I’ll get stories from him about his dad.

Regarding why he started playing again I’m not sure. I went to see REK last year on his retirement tour and I met a lady who knows Charlie’s brother Bruce who is a famous country singer in his own right and she basically told me that Charlie was being dramatic and he would be back. And she was right. Thank God cause I remember when he quit touring and I was super bummed I never got to see him.

I encourage you to listen to as much of his music as you can. He has over 50 amazing songs in my opinion. Great singer, great performer, great dude. Last concert I went to was him, Jason boland, and Chris knight which was legendary

The intro to “Tonight” always resonated with my buddies and me because we grew up in a small town. Everything he talks about in that song were things we experienced. Just “riding around” to see what was happening was entertainment and a way of life.

My son plays in a band that covers two of his songs, El Cerrito Place and Big City Blues. Their next gig in a couple of weeks going to feel a little different when they play them.

This sucks. I'm a big Charlie fan and saw him countless times over the years. Got to meet him at a couple of those shows at Rabbs back in the day. Cool dude with a shitload of good music. RIP Charlie
