It killed his bank account for a while.
The outcome of that lawsuit was beyond ridiculous. The Verve acquired permission to take what they took, and the Rolling Stones won the lawsuit -- which essentialy made "bittersweet symphony" legally their song and gave them ALL the royalties from the song in perpetuity -- on the grounds that they "took too much".
Complete nonsense. The Rolling Stones won that lawsuit simply because they were the rolling stones. Ashcroft got fricked in the arse by a throbbing, sweaty cock on that deal.

Reasonably. But I bet the royalties from the entirety of his solo career isn't even a fraction of the royalties he would have gotten off Bittersweet Symphony.
