Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the third studio album by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on October 23, 1995 in the United Kingdom and a day later in the United States on Virgin Records. Produced by frontman Billy Corgan with Flood and Alan Moulder, the 28-track album was released as a two-disc CD and triple LP. The album features a wide array of styles, as well as greater musical input from bassist D'arcy Wretzky and second guitarist James Iha.

Great band and album. I have a lot of friends that claim they're rock enthusiasts but they never seem to mention much about Smashing Pumpkins.

Billy Corgan's voice is really off-putting for some people or they would have been a lot bigger than they were.

I bought this album not long after its release and still haven't listened to it in its entirety some 25 years later. I still dig the singles but suppose I'm not enough of a Pumpkins fan to listen to so much of their music in one sitting. I remember the cd packaging being thick as a brick...

I have to disagree, I thought his voice was different than any others at the time. It put the exclamation point to the music...

I really like this album, but nothing will ever touch Siamese Dream. I believe it belongs in a top 50 all time rock albums.

A double album was pretty damn ambitious for them. But they pulled it off - it's their most recognized effort and a quintessential album of the 90's. It seems like everyone I knew has it in their CD case.
Siamese Dream is a more cohesive album, but I can't help but love Mellon Collie. Unfortunately, I never really got into this band until about 2004 for some reason. So I missed out on seeing them live...until two years when they did their reunion tour and played all the great songs from their 90s albums. The show was fantastic and I felt some form of closure of that hole.

Hated that album. Such a disappointment after Gish and Siamese Dream.

I never hated it, but there were a few songs that were off putting. Overall I loved it though.
Shift 20 years later when I get it on vinyl, and I appreciate it even more now. It shines on a proper sound system and the richness of the vinyl. Amazing stuff

lot of filler on those 2 discs.
Had tonight-tonight, Zero, Bullet w butterfly wings, 1979, 33, bodies, in the arms of sleep, Where boys fear to tread, Mouths of Babes & God (from the zero single) been an album it would have been an easier listen

Mellon Collie was for the late arrival fans.

people always say this but I question the last time they really sat down to listen to it (although I like everything Billy has ever done). Jellybelly, Muzzle, and Here is no Why are all great hard rockers along the lines of Geek USA or Siva. To Forget is an underrated, powerful song about Billys abusive past. Galapagos, Porcelina, Thru the Eyes of Ruby are all terrific sweeping melodies especially Galapagos. By starlight, 33, Stumbline, Lily.. all good. The only songs I tend to skip over are XYU, Cupide de locke, frick you, and love. Siamese Dream is a better, cohesive album, but the amount of sounds and textures on Mellon Collie is astonishing.

His voice isn't loud, boisterous, and rough like the voice of most rock singers. His is just soothing and relaxing sounding to me.

It’s a great album but SD will always be my favorite Pumpkins album.

Much, much prefer Gish and Siamese Dream.

I liked the album at the time, and what they were trying to do musically.
I like it much more than what came afterwards.

I was listening to this the other day oddly enough. Epic album for sure.
