Side note: Dave Grohl did pretty much all the instruments and vocals on the Foo Fighters’ first album.

I think Barry Goudreau sang some as well. You can find a live version of Don't Look Back and he shares the vocals with Delp.

I don’t think any of his bandmates enjoyed working with him.

scholz was a college professor and a genius. he was boston. brad delp is my all time greatest vocalist.

scholz designed all kinds of stuff for his guitar playing and that's why it sounds so unique.

Yeah, dude is insanely talented. I don't think he does much on the keys, but all the traditional rock outfit instruments, he can play with anyone.

Boston IS Tom Scholz with Brad on vocals....everyone else in original line-up was just a hired gun except Brad.

His solo album that came out after "Don't Look Back" was actually very good. Brad Delp sang on it along with another lead vocalist, Fran Cosmo (who I believe went on to sing with Boston also).

You serious Clark?
Whether you like their music or not, if you cannot admit that they are, as individual musicians, and as a collaborative group, three of the best of all time...
then I don't know what to say other than...

so I'm not certain if he recorded the drums at concert tempo, played them at half-speed or multi-tracked the fills, used programming for what he couldn't play or what have you.

It was 1975/76, Scholz did the album on a Tascam tape machine with only 8 tracks, there was no computer, Pro Tools or any type of digital stuff to program, most professional studios of the day only had 24 track 2” tape machines. Part of the characteristic of the sound of the album is the result of taking multiple tracks of instruments and vocals and mixing them to a single track to free up some of the 8 tracks available for additional recording.

I don't know why he doesn't get more press along with the great multi-instrumentalists (McCartney, Winwood, Prince, John Paul Jones) -
Perhaps a Honorable Mention to Todd Rungren but his best talent may be as a producer.

No argument. A lot of multi-instrumentalists get into production - seems natural. Bob Rock and Mutt Lang quietly add bits to many records they produced, whether it be vocals, bass, guitar, what have you.

What happened between don’t look back and 3rd stage? 8 years and the music wasn’t close.

Massive lawsuits between band and record company.

I probably still have the Orion The Hunter cassette with "So You Ran" on it.

For guitar, yes. Unfortunately, his ear for drums after the first two albums is amateur hour at best. Every album after Don't Look Back would've been at least one star better with a competent drum sound.
