I think she's weird and all, but I kind of like a fair amount of her music.

She’s talented and owes a ton of her success to her producer brother.

Sounds like she just talks through her songs. Where’s the talent in that?
And lol at that Oxytocin sounding like NIN. It does not sound anything like NIN

Leonard Cohen, Marianne Faithful, Lou Reed, Lana Del Ray,etc..
It can be done. Not everyone has Buckley and Babs pipes.

She does a bit of sing speaking but is that really anything new? She’s creative and writes catchy songs. I think also people forget she’s like 19 or 20? From a career stand point we haven’t seen her peak yet by a long shot IMO.

Eh. Out of all the young female musical artists, I’d say Billie has the least vapid music.
Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s overly insightful or intellectually stimulating, but I wouldn’t say it’s vapid.

then morphs into a total rock song
Just because someone added distorted guitars to their repeating 4 chord progression, doesn't make it rock.
This is little more than most of the other pop out there, just dressed up a little differently.
And what is up with the bass/drum tracks distorting? It sounds like they hit their limiter way too hard or oversaturated the subgroup buss on mixdown. Either way, not a pleasant sound to my ears.

I listened the the whole new album today. The arrangements and production are far and away the best thing in pop music right now. Her voice is better and the songs have evolved. The lyrics are actually good and the songs are put together well with melody and vocal hooks. I know it’s easy to hate on this girl but she really has a lot of potential. She has a distinctive voice and is more confident in it. There are actual instruments being played on this record aside from the production etc.
Just my initial thoughts from listening to it today.

Hey you want to know what's keeping rock from becoming mainstream again? Gate keepers like you. Meanwhile we've been seeing a trend of pop stars and rap artists slowly move towards the rock scene. You don't have to like it but any chance rock has to bounce back into the mainstream I'm for it

LOLOLOL. I genuinely laughed at this. If you think my critique is being a gatekeeper, well, that explains A LOT.
If you like this, great. But it isn't "rock". And most of the singers moving "toward rock" are doing imitations of what they think is rock. It is a copy of a copy... and not a digital copy...good ole 3rd generation analog copies. It's an imitation of the ingredients without understanding what the ingredients mean and are really made of. I would LOVE to see real rock make a come back, but as with most genres, there are parameters that make it what it is. Simply adding a distorted guitar isn't enough to be real rock. Sure, maybe it fools some people, but it is an illusion. MJ's Dirty Diana was far more rock (thanks to Steve). Even Janet's Black Cat was as well. But like this, they were just pop artists trying to buy a little rock cred.
But please...at least don't create the kind of buss distortion that is on that track. That is just really really poor mixing and/or mastering.

I like Billie but yeah, her brother Finneas is extremely talented as a producer and writes most of her songs.
