In name only... what has become the face of country music over the past few decades, is nothing close to what many of us regard as real country...

It's almost like it should be called something else... its been reduced to its lowest common denominator.. twang, cowboy hats and or boots..

Real country is alive and well, but its just not what's promoted and played and recognized at these types of award shows...

The Americana category is much closer and more in tune to what I consider real country music, but that one doesn't even get any TV time...

Americana just isn't the right description though IMO. idk

I get what you're saying. trust me. "country" music in the mainstream is such a bastardized version of it.

"alt-country" was a title that just never got the traction needed. Country music has been taken over by the nashville suits and this goes back decades of course.

I mean, sturgill simpson released an album in 2024. it's really good.

so sturgill simpson who HAS WON A GRAMMY got forgotten about because beyonce wanted to win a grammy for her "country" record?

ok

It wasn’t even a good album

She just beat Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson for Country Album of the year.

Garbage

To call her "country effort" garbage is an insult to garbage.

If I had to pick the most overrated singer in the world. It would be her.

I always refer to it as pop country or radio country.

As you said, the "Americana" version or whatever you want to call it now is what has actual substance.

By pop or radio country standards, her album fits right in with most of what's being played on radio and tv.

I only really consider high top mountain as a country album. Guess pointless to categorize music

The only one that can't be considered country is Sound & Fury.

Sailors Guide is closer to rock, but still has country influence. Everything else definitely leans country or bluegrass(Cuttin Grass albums).

Malone is a legit artist. Never paid much attention until he went modern country. Got curious and started looking at previous work. His Insane video is simply a confession. Rough looking and acting 29 years old. Be lucky to see 50 but at least he made it past the 27 year curse.

Post’s album is much closer to country than Beyoncé’s. He was completely embraced by other major country artists by singing with him on most of the tracks.

Beyoncé had Miley Cyrus duet with her.

Musgraves’ album was more folk than country but at least it’s music which is more than I can say for Cowboy Carter. She looked downright salty when Beyoncé won.

She denies it, but come on. She was not happy about it at all. And rightly so.

The most pertinent ingredient in a country song is authenticity. That said, Beyonce's album is loaded with professionalism in the production, the mixing, the vocals, etc. but it is not authentic.
There's no way she matches up with Lainey Wilson in putting out real, authentic country music.

Then it pretty much died with the ascendency of Garth Brooks and all that followed.
