I tend to like songs with this lyrical theme - either local, regional or global apocalypse, and it tends to cross a lot of genre boundaries:

Some of my favorites

A Country Boy Can Survive - Hank, Jr.

99 Luftballoons (guilty pleasure - and I prefer the German version for whatever reason) - Nena

It's a Mistake - Men at Work

2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden

1999 - Prince

Ænema - Tool

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

It's the End of the World as We Know It - REM

Two Suns in the Sunset - Pink Floyd

War Pigs - Black Sabbath

When the Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin

Talking WWIII Blues - Bob Dylan

Bad Moon Rising - CCR

Skyfall - Adele

At Best Buy, some employee played this so loud over the PA system on 12/22/12. I almost shite myself.

They have another song called Paschendale about a WWI battle that was so extreme and epic, it was effectively a local holocaust. It's great.

You could probably argue Riders on the Storm also.

I especially like the cute little girl with the Hiroshima eye in the video. Incidentally, Brown did write this song about an apocalypse: the German Luftwaffe blitz bombing of London during WW II.
