Truth be told, I like a lot of the mentions in the thread (The Clash, The Police, The Kinks, Elvis Costello, etc.)

Fair. Incredible that he only released 6 studio albums as a solo adult , but I would only call his last album 'Invincible' ,"meh".

That 5 album span represents his all around brilliance (singer, songwriter, dancer) & prime 1978-1995/96) fairly well. Although vocally he was at his purest during the Off The Wall era he was still the Goat performer & solid songwriter during the History era(See 1995 MTV awards & perhaps one his best ballads ever "Stranger in Moscow" from that album; among other vintage MJJ).
Although they may not all be 'great' I think they all capture the 'it'/'magic'/brilliance of MJJ(excepting Invincible) & are 1st rate .

Zeppelin invented a genre? Really? White boy blues existed a long time before Zep. Hell, Jimmy Page was IN one of those bands (The Yardbirds). Plenty of bands sounded like Zeppeling before Zep, that's why so many of them sued Zeppelin...
And I like Zep (and the Stones). but invented a genre? No way. Not even close. They are English blues-rock bands, which is sort of the foundation of rock n roll, post 1960. They were very good at it, but not exactly genre busting.

I certainly like LZ III, but Houses of the Holy and Presence would be closer to the top for me.
If I had to pack "Beatles" I guess Abbey RD, Revolver and White Album, not one of my priority groups though.
I'm one of those strange people that puts Meddle and Atom Heart Mother above The Wall.

Song Remains the Same was a bit weak and In Through the Out Door was somewhat soft but truly bad? No, not in my opinion. Some people will say don't bother with anything after Physical Graffiti. I'll admit that Presence took a little time to grow on me but once it did, it became one of my favorites.

Doesn't seem so to me, but a lot of people see it differently, a lot don't care much for LZ III, I like it, LZ II has to be on about anyone's must have lists and I can't imagine not having Achilles Last Stand on my player.
