Who gets your gold medal in this category?

I may get some shite for this, but oh well. My vote goes to....

Miss Americana

Am I a huge fan of her as a person? No.
Is she one of my favorite artists? Well, I would be a liar if I said I didn't like her music, but there are many others I like more.

But she writes PERFECT songs. Again and again and again.

Until Dylan dies, he's still the greatest alive, and when he's dead, he will be the greatest ever.

Dan Wilson.

Who? Semisonic lead, and writer/co-writer/producer on about 150 other bands' songs.

Prolific? Yup. Best? I dunno, but his stuff sure is catchy.

Great choices as are Dylan and Paul McCartney.

I'm not going to pretend that "best" is in any way objective. If you think he's the best, roll with it.

The machine known as Steven Wilson.

It isn't close, IMO, when you consider the body of work he has put out since the mid 90's with Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, Bass Communion, No-Man, and his solo works.

Not to mention the albums he has either remastered or engineered with bands like Opeth.

A reported $300,000,000 says so...

There are many great americana/alt-independent country songwriters. Tyler Childers is top of that list currently for someone under the under of 35

You think the Swift is a better songwriter than Van Morrison, Bob Dillan, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel,

shite, I'm tired of typing. You're stupid, and I say that with all honesty.

Maca's not my cup or tea, especially lyrically, but you can't deny the sheer volume of hits and melodies he's written

It's Dylan for the foreseeable future, assuming you think McCartney was too "commercial" to be considered "best" -

Either way they're holding down the 2 relevant spots:

Dylan - Consensus "best" (quality, influence, etc.) - and really, Leonard Cohen was probably the only real competition until he passed - hell, I don't know who is the second spot right now (unless it's Maca)

McCartney - the most commercially successful songwriter of the past, present and likely future 1000+ years of humanity.
