Bernard Purdie or Vinnie Colauita would get my vote

I’ve always felt that Stewart Copeland deserves more respect than he’s usually given.

I think your Keith Moon's and John Bonham's are drummers that made their bands elite. They were rock star drummers who were amazingly good and as a whole "rockstar package" fit perfectly in their respective bands and it made the band better.
I think there are drummers that are technically better than them. I will not pretend to be that person that has this list of drummers that I think are amazing, or that influenced me or anything. I've played on and off since I was young. Mostly just banging along to songs in my garage and never getting technically good. I enjoy Bonham and he's probably my favorite. But when I see guys like Buddy Rich play, my jaw drops because I just can't figure out how I could ever do some of the things they do. I can watch someone slow down a rock fill and I can usually play, practice, and speed up to eventually get something that resembles it. Some jazz beats, even at the slowest tempo, I can't even get one arm to do it while the other does what it's supposed to.

Best drummer of all time is a silly conversation to have because so many people have been so influential to music from many different genres and cultures. If you honestly believe Neil Peart is the best drummer, you are NOT a fricking drummer. Buddy Rich was incredible, like a machine. Others that impacted music in exponential ways were: Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Earl Palmer, Lionel Hampton, Max Roach, many many more. There are so many lesser known giants in music, one being Arthur Latin. Louisiana is home to greats like Brian Blade and Johnny Vidacovich. There are thousands of wonderful drummers. Always grateful to Peart and Bonham for their influence they had on the instrument, but they are not the best. Peart actually gets pissed when people say this to him.

Vinnie Colaiuta can play anything. Seriously. Here's a clip of Vinnie doing Buddy Rich: Vinny plays Buddy

I always loved the Motown drummers:
Benny Benjamin, Richard Pistol Allen, and Uriel Jones. Fantastic sound.

John Blackwell was known to say EVERYBODY in Prince's band took his criticism so well because they knew Prince could walk over, and play the instrument better than they could!!

I just saw Foo Fighters in concert.
It is hard to believe ANYONE could be better live than Taylor Hawkins.
And I have been to alot of shows and he made my mouth hit the floor.
Awesome!!

I'm fairly certain I've heard Taylor Hawkins talk about how it's hard to not even be the best drummer in the band.... .
I recently saw a FF show and he is entertaining. The best I saw live was Carter Beauford back in high school. I saw DMB and he went off that night and it was pretty impressive. Other than that, never got to see any big name drummers put on a show.
