Where do you see the state of local music these days? Seems a little stale at the moment but I think the current biggest names (not an opinion of the groups but a statement of their marketability) are:

Brass Bands left out

Still Rising:
Anders Osborne
The Revivalists
Tank and the Bangas
Trombone Shorty
Preservation Hall
Luke Winslow King
Hurray for the Riff Raff

Maintaining:
Galactic
Honey Island Swamp Band
Naughty Professor
Sweet Crude
The Deslondes

Slipping:
Tab Benoit
Flow Tribe
Eric Lindell
Generationals
Royal Teeth
Mutemath
Dr. John

Gaining Momentum:
Samantha Fish (transplant to)
Boogie Long
Stoop Kids
Jordan Anderson & The Causeways
Roadside Glorious
Grayson Capps

Rotated Out:
Earphunk (Dephunkt)
Benjamin Booker (transplanted in and back out)

I'd add New Orleans Suspects to the "Still Rising" category (or maybe "Gaining Momentum"). Do you consider Royal Southern Brotherhood to be a New Orleans band? If so, they're somewhere in there too.

I left off "all star groups" and went for mainly pure plays in my categorizing. I guess they deserve to be in that number though. I left off Dragon Smoke for same reason.

Anders Osborne continues to surprise. Saw him a while back, thought he would be on his way to being washed up, but he was sharp and good

I would agree on Tab Benoit. He still plays a pretty mean guitar, bu he's just not really doing anything to get out of his comfort zone.

Preservation Hall and Dr. John are iconic institutions. I don't know how PHall can be "still rising". As for the good Doctor, he's likely not in good health as he bailed on his annual Tip's shows around New Year's and didn't do Jazz Fest for the first time in a long time. So I guess he is declining health wise, but not fair to say artistically as he's continually put out good music in every decade since he started 50 years ago.

Drop Galactic in your Slippin' category.

The Iceman Special should be in your rising category.

Anders is a badass. GPJ is forever rising til the day he moves on.

They should just replace the douche that ghosted on them and keep making music. It's not like he rolled out with all their money. Or equipment. Or souls.

Anders is the best followed by Trombone Shorty then Dumpstafunk.

As far as local rock bands, I’m partial to The Breton Sound, Paris Avenue, and the Tomb of Nick Cage.
