My top three (I couldn't just pick one):

1. Talking Heads - Remain in Light
2. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
3. Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

just missed the cut:

Paul Simon - Graceland
Public Image Ltd - Second Edition

Since it's art - there's no such thing as Best...but my favorite would be:

Springsteen...The River.

Murmur
Reckoning

Hell, I was enamored with Fables of the Reconstruction as well, although let's admit it, it took some time to get acclimated, didn't it?

Murmur broke the mold, and Reckoning was sheer genius.

Synchronicity

Yeah, a great album and commercial success.

I think 1979's Regatta De Blanc was the best album song for song, and for creative coherence (not to say that Synchronicity wasn't coherent, it was, and extremely so, but in Regatta they still had punch, in spite of being incomparably refined).

Very good selection, although one of these things is not like the other (for me at least).

"Best" album spanning ten years??? Jeez, can we narrow it down a little? ;)...and would it be the best because of the quality or the flow or the music???

Where do we begin?

First off, let me mention that at least two of the previous posts included albums produced by Brian Eno...the Talking Heads and U2. The guy is a genius, and I'm sure you'll hear me speak more of him.

With that said, ten years? As soon as I post a couple of albums, I'm sure I'll think of others, so I'll let the first ones rip...

Nothing's Shocking - Jane's Addiction
Go ahead...try listening to this album in your car on a summer's day with the windows down and tell me you don't groove on it.

Vienna - Ultravox Perhaps my favorite album of all time for various reasons.

This is such a tough question as I have at least 100 that I want to list.

I did get to catch the Smiths on their God is Dead tour. I'll never forget that show. Johnny Marr is the shite and MoreSissy was in rare form.

I still like 1984 better, but Fair Warning certainly has arguably VH's best song in "Unchained" (not to mention "Mean Street").

These kind of define the 80's for me-
Licensed to Ill -Beastie Boys
It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back- Public Enemy
Ride the Lightening - Metallica
Violent Femmes -Violent Femmes
Thriller -Michael Jackson
1999 -Prince
Straight Outta Compton -NWA
Appetite for Destruction -Guns n Roses
Violator -Depeche Mode
Joshua Tree -U2
Paul's Boutique -Beastie Boys
The Smiths -The Smiths
Back in Black -AC/DC

My pick would be Joshua Tree -U2
