Presale starts tomorrow - going to be my first trip. Any feedback? I'm excited

What do flights tend to run that weekend (I know it's 2 next year)?

It's awesome. I've been 6 out of the last 7 years I've lived here (and I only missed in '09 because I had swine flu) and it's one of my favorite weekends of the year.

Couldn't tell you about flights but book your hotel NOW.

Which weekend are you going? I know of 2 of the headliners and they are well worth the price of the ticket ;)

I was planning weekend two because its a long weekend with the holiday, and no Texas Oklahoma game - any chance of prodding some info on the headliners? Or perhaps good sites for the gossip?

Hotel booked - about 5 miles from the fest site but I work in hotels and got an employee rate (ill cab it for a $30 room). Booked both weekends pending my final decision.

I went the first two years... first one was awesome, second one was packed... I assume the rest have been too

Just not a huge festival person now days, but I always have a fun time in Austin

I always stayed at the Austin Motel...

I've been to 2009, 2011, and 2012. I got my first weekend three-day pass today!

The festival is really crowded - about 75k, but I've learned not to get upset that I'm not UP CLOSE SO I CAN SEE!

I much prefer sitting in the back and just listening.

This year was a blast, so I'm certainly looking forward to next year!

yep, I just bought GA passes for the first weekend as well. Wanted VIP passes, but they were $1050 each.. that is crazy.

Had VIP this past year (given to me for free), but a few beers and some food is not worth the extra $850 per ticket. If you could take the free beers from the VIP area to the festival, then I might consider, but you cannot.

Doing Fun Fun Fun this weekend instead. ACL has gotten so packed it just hasn't been fun. Hoping less people and a still stack lineup will make FFF better (though I'm only doing one day because... LSU-Bama, duh).

Haha, I'll never tell!

What kind of music do you listen to? Or, if all kinds, what's your favorite? I wonder if you'll like either of the bands I know about...

And as for having the same lineup, I would highly doubt that...otherwise they would just keep it to one weekend...I think if C3 is spending all that money, they're going to change things up a bit, not pay the same bands to play 2 weeks in a row.

Little bit of everything - truly.

last couple weeks, ive been leaning towards some of the alt country/songwriter stuff on my iphone (patterson hood, will johnson, michael dean damron, ryan adams) but was doing a lot of the local brass bands the few weeks before that. bought an eddie hinton cd (old muscle shoals soul stuff) today that im really looking forward to popping in when i get home. ive traveled for metal shows, seen george clinton about a half dozen times. its all over the board.

the only stuff i tend to shy away from is dubstep/electronic. just doesnt stir the soul for me.

as to the two weekends - thats a pretty consistent point that ive seen tossed around wherever ive found gossip. that its not official but they were going to model it after coachella in that respect. ive never really followed coachella but thats a talking point ive seen a couple of places. it seems you might have some more inside information though.

The two that I know of aren't like any of those that you listed. One is classic rock, another is 90"s grunge/alternative. Both big names. Again, these are rumored headliners...no telling who the rest of the names will be.

Also, this is just what I've been told...I am in NO way an expert and have no way of confirming quite yet...but my source is a good one, so we'll see if I'm right. :)

As far as having the same show both weekends...this is literally the first I've heard of that so I have no idea. I could probably find out, though.

Cotton, we have pretty similar taste in music and I am excited about them both, so you'd probably dig at LEAST one...there's one I'm more psyched about than the other, just because they NEVER tour. I'm tossing around the idea of sending you an email about it

Glad to hear both of those. Big fan of each.

i was going to toss some names in both of those categories, but decided not to list a ton of bands.

only a couple grunge could be in a discussion to headline something this big unless they pull some obscure rabbit out of the hat. that narrows it down a bit in my head.

classic rock has such a range that i wont begin to guess.

very happy with both genres as a starting off point though.

....and you might be wrong

do not be shocked at all to hear that the same 3 headliners on the first weekend will be back for more the 2nd weekend

but, virtually all of the opening acts/bands will be different

Good to know, makes sense.

I figured you'd know a thing or two about it

Thanks for clarifying

As long as they book legit headliners that's a great move.

i think at the price point, and trying to push two weekends... theres a lot of pressure to do so this year.

obviously there is any given year, but as a bit of a crossroads getting to the $200 price point, only doing 3 day tickets and adding a second weekend.... id think they have a bit of added pressure to really nail this one.
