Jack.... not sure how local you are, but I’m still interested in moving my VPI Nomad. It has an ortofon 2m red on it. It also has its own phono built in.

After reading through every post, I figure I'll take a turn. Currently I'm just luke warm on my setup. I have some worn out ears not worthy of high dollar audiophile stuff, but I would like a small upgrade.
Current
Denon DP-300F turntable (upgraded cart to Shure M97xe years ago)
NAD PP 2e preamp
Klipsch powered bookshelf speakers (R-15PM I think)
Cambridge Audio Minx X301 Sub (love this sub)
Room: Huge LR with 19 foot ceilings and hardwood. I have to stick with bookshelf speakers. I have a big theater system in another room so this is just hang out and chill area. Think Bourbon and tunes without blasting the wife out.
My Issues: Love the convenience of the Klipsch setup. Music actually sounds pretty good when I stream via the attached Chromecast and CDs. My Vinyl just sounds pretty flat and lifeless. My original thought was to get a receiver (I have a pretty nice Pioneer on hand) and new speakers. I think my Turntable and/or cartridge is my weakest link.
I'm open to suggestions. If the Denon is the issue, I'm looking at about $500ish players (Pro-Ject and Fluance RT85). I could also just spend that money on a cartridge like the Blue Point or Ortofon Bronze for the Denon.
If I buy speakers, then I'd say $700 is the top end I can spend. Combined Turntable/Cart/Speaker max would be $1000ish.
Leaning towards buying the Fluance RT85 first. If I'm still lacking there, I'd go ahead with new speakers
Thanks for any help.

Well, I just ordered the Fluance RT85. I saw the post about the VTI, but figured those dudes were out of my price range. I'm going to try out the new turntable with my setup, but I'm already looking at getting a NAD integrated amp and some new speakers. The bug has bitten me.

Probably should’ve asked before you ordered....
Probably less than you thought.

What are your thoughts on getting a bookshelf (stand mounted) speaker, and filling in the bottom end later with a sub?
Looks like I ended up following you and Marco’s advice. Acquired this Miller & Kreisel sub for just a touch under my $1k budget........got it for $100 lol. As I talked about earlier, the main weakness of my speakers was their low end. This more than fills that space. I don’t even scratch the surface of what it’s capable of.

Nice find, Bri. That M&K has been around a while but looks like a very solid sub, and especially for that price you couldn't come close on a new one. Doesn't sound like you'll be pushing it. If you can, try experimenting with the positioning some to see how it affects the sound.

My copy came in last week, and I’m just now getting around to playing it. Sounds great, and the packaging is nice. This is my first UHQR from AP. I hesitated pulling the trigger on Hendrix and missed out, and I’m not a big jethro Tull fan so I skipped that reissue. However the actual album jacket has a seam split in the middle of the interior gatefold, but AP has put in an order for a replacement. Other than that very pleased.

Enjoy! I hear it’s pretty special. If it’s anything close to my Hendrix, I’ll be pleased. I ordered a little late, so not sure I’ll be in that initial 6000. May have to wait for the next batch. Got 2 brand new Tone Poets that came out today to help pass the time...

This is damn near reference quality as far as this coonass is concerned...
Welp guys, I simply could not ignore the hype and y’all were right, this sounds fantastic. The sub I bought really fills the holes that were missing on albums like this with walking bass runs.
Get this record

I have an older Marantz 2238 receiver that has been with me for a while but I believe it is time for a refurbishment. It’s scratchy, left channel will come and go, etc. I am wondering if it would be wise to sink money into having this old one repaired or just buy a brand new integrated amp? I don’t want this to turn into a money pit! (I also have no idea who would be trustworthy to work on these things in the NOLA or Mobile areas). Any advice would be appreciated!

Westbank Audio Services on Hancock St. in Gretna
Tom isn’t the warmest of fellas, but he does know what he is doing. He requires a $30 cash deposit that goes toward the repair should you elect to do it.
I would repair it.

Happy 4th.

I wonder why this record has never been given a proper reissue from one of the major audiophile labels? Would love to have one.
