My friend Jason, The Audiophile Junkie, did a 3-part YouTube system interview with “Audio Dave” in Thibadoux about 8 months ago. Dave is a good friend of mine. Here is the LINK.
He has the mother of all VMPS speakers, the RM V60 and separate bass towers. Dave used to work the VMPS room at RMAF and CES with Brian Cheney until Brian’s death in 2012. I’ve logged a good amount of time in front of Dave’s VMPS rig.

Marco, just watched Pt 1. Good stuff - thanks! Man that's cool to see the VMPS "wings" and someone who clearly not only appreciates them but has the dedication (and chops) to set them and the room up well.
I also note he mentioned Legacy - as I referenced before, with the outboard digital XOs, ribbon drivers and so on they remind me of VMPS more than anything extant. I've been trying not to drool too much over the Legacy Whisper XDS - the open baffle design and powered 15" woofers seem like a true combo platter of the best of both the dipole and dynamic worlds. I think I'd need a listening room detached from the rest of the house like Dave to take advantage of their potent potential though, lol.

Just a heads up for the folks in this thread, the pre-order for Analogue Productions’ UHQR Miles Davis Kind of Blue is now live at the link below. However, they’re pressing 25k so I doubt this will sell out anytime soon, like the craft recordings small batch bullshite.
Oh, and this one up for pre-order is the 33rpm stereo version. Apparently they will also be doing a 45rpm version at an unspecified later date. Hopefully this is the last time I will ever buy kind of blue. Lol

Thanks, PhilpMarlowe.
I've had 3-4 versions of KoB, not sure I will splurge for this. But, I do have a little story related to AP.
A few years ago, not very long after moving to the house I'm in now, I had just read a Stereophile article about AP and Chad Kassem. The next day was Saturday and I'm walking our dog, wearing an LSU tee-shirt. A black Lexus pulls up next to me and the guy rolls down the window and starts chatting how he'd lived in Lafayette for years and loves Louisiana and LSU. We introduce ourselves, he says his name is Chocky Kassem.
Wait. Kassem, with a "Ch" first name. I think to myself... what are the chances that he could be Chad Kassem's dad? So I ask if he has a son named Chad. YEP IT'S HIM. Told him about reading an article on his son just the day before and it was a nice conversation.
I got his email and invited him to a crawfish boil but never heard back, unfortunately. So the connection was cool to make but kinda fizzled.

I ordered yesterday. I have the original mono pressing that is well worn. Hopefully this pressing can be my daily driver KOB.

Ha. Wild.
Yeah, this will be my 3rd copy, and honestly I don’t really need it. My first copy was just a random cheap version at a local store. Well before I knew anything about audiophile labels, analogue reissues, pressing quality, etc. However that cheap copy still sounds pretty damn nice. Lol. The next copy I bought was the mofi 45, and really I don’t need anything other than this copy because it sounds great. Only issue is that it’s 2xLP 45, which means my lazy arse will never spin it as much as I may want. SOOOO this AP reissue being a top quality single disc (hopefully) means I’ll listen to the album a lot more than normal, and makes sense to buy....but I can’t imagine ever needing to buy this album again...I hope.

I think I’m gonna hold off for the 45rpm version. Figure if I’m gonna drop the money(I’m guessing the 45 will be $125) might as well get the absolute best. Don’t blame you if you’ve already got the 2lp mofi though

Been a while...this is actually a really good pressing of a CCR tribute (the other CCR)

Looking for a recommendation on a turntable upgrade. Budget would be no more than $500. I’d be upgrading from an Audio Technica LP60, the receiver is a Pioneer SX-636.
Buy new or try and pick up a vintage table locally - like the
Denon DP-31L
Pioneer - PL -12D
Philips GA-222
for cheap and have a shop look it over and add a decent stylus?
Your thoughts appreciated.

I've enjoyed my Fluance RT-85

A budget of $500 should definitely give you a lot of options for a new table. It’s been a couple years since I’ve last had a thorough look at buying, but when my old dual table crapped out on me I bought a Rega Planar 1 to use until I found a permanent table. After the stock rega cart had a week or so time to burn in it really started sounding nice. I think it was around $475 when I bought it a couple years ago.
With the way vinyl has exploded over the last couple years I imagine there are even more companies putting out tables around that price offering good quality and value. 45 already mentioned Fluance, a few other brands off the top of my head would be:
Rega
U-turn
Pro-Ject
NAD
Music Hall
Denon
As for whether or not you should buy new or vintage, I’ve been hearing that the great deals that were once out there on old turntables have really started to dry up due to the reemergence of vinyl over the past couple years. That’s not to say they aren’t still out there, but maybe just harder to find. Vintage gear is what I first started buying, but once my Dual 1229 crapped out on me I just decided I would start buying newer gear. If you live in a city with access to solid repair shops, buying vintage gear might be worth it to you.

That Dexter Gordon “One Flight Up” is tight.
Read up on how the album got its name.

I have 28 or so of the 43 Tone Poets released so far, and this one is top 5 in sound quality. And that’s saying a lot because they all pretty much sound amazing. If you dig this album, get this version, they really knocked it out of the park...

This is damn near reference quality as far as this coonass is concerned...
