You need to take the towel off the top of your receiver—it needs to breathe. Is the towel covering any vent slots?

Yeah, we have dogs, so I cover them to keep dust out. I pull it off if I know I’m gonna be jamming for an extended time.

Capitol/Apple Records
2017 Stereo remaster
The purists may hate it, but this blows my original press out of the water

i just bought my first turntable since i was a kid back in early 80s.
is just a cheap suitcase Crowley with crap speakers, but can be connected vis RCA jacks to a better system.
So what’s the best (reasonably priced) powered speaker that isn’t enormous? I want my setup to be semi mobile as i’ll liaten in different rooms in house or outside while hanging out/cooking, etc. So not looking for a huge stereo with tower speakers.

I would just grab a pair of KRK studio monitors

That album does sound nice. I recently picked up the 2017 re release of The White Album. It's excellent.

I’ve really been enjoying this album lately, and the vinyl finally arrived.

I have always given, to the best of my ability, advice and help to this board when I see fellow audiophiles and music aficionados making decisions that could affect their livelihood.
As many of you have wives, children, and extended families that rely on you, I fear some of you may end up permanently affixed to a one seat table in the back corner of a pipe tobacco smoke-filled back alley jazz club in Greenwich Village, eventually leaving the wife and kids behind to fend for themselves as your need for evermore complex modes and scales drives you further down the hole until nothing but Albert Ayler spiritualization trances will get you your “fix”.
Well Uncle Marco, M.D. (music doctor) isn’t throwing in the towel on his fellow MB residents just yet. In an effort to save your families from certain abandonment (think of the children for God’s sake!), I am prescribing you all with a magical elixir to cure your ailment—a taste of live, unadulterated, unapologetic, Louisiana grown, arse-shakin’, foot-grindin’, nasty boogie-woogie Rock ‘n Roll stew.
Some of you may need to up the dosage of this new elixir from QD (those listening to a few Blue Note releases a week) to TID, or even QID (for the ones with multiple subscriptions entire re-release catalogues).
So I present the MB with this new magical potion. Use it alone on the first dose, as it lacks complicated chords, scales, and modes, and may have side effects causing you to extinguish the pipe and stand up to shake dat arse...
The elixir:
LETS RADIATE!!!

So, I found a guy locally that is selling a pair PSB Stratus Golds. From what I’ve read these are highly regarded and originally over $2k a pair. I think I can get these for $400-500. Should I move on them? Tia

PSB was very highly respected - Paul Barton was considered one of the best speaker designers in his era. They date back 20-30 years or so, I'd be careful about the age and condition but they should be very quality speakers. The company is still extant, in different hands but still building highly regarded speakers.

I’m pretty sure these are first generation from the early 90s. Aesthetically, the boxes need a little work, but the speakers look great. Obviously I’ll check them out and make sure they’re in good working condition. You think they’re a good value at $500 for the pair?

I would have some pause at pulling the trigger on a 30 year old speaker, to be honest. But that does look like a reasonable price, just comparing to market listings for it on hifishark.com. (Click on the Sold/Expired link to see some, for example this was listed at $600 and sold though can't tell what the final price was:

Think I’ll offer $350 and see where it goes. I feel like if I can get them for $450 or less then I’ve done very well. And like I said, they need some cabinet work

Not yet, but I plan to if I decide I’m serious about buying them.

Larry Carlton - Alone/ But Never Alone
1986 MCA Master Series
Picked this up a couple weeks ago at a local record shop for $2.50. I’m telling y’all, it may be the best sounding record in my collection. Makes my pedestrian setup sound other worldly. If you come across one of these scoop it up

Marco, it's been a while since we chatted on here about home audio. You seem to have a lot of experience with different brands, so would love your thoughts.
I have been a B&W fanboy ever since my first a pair of speakers I bought back in college...a pair of CDM7SE's all the way until the 802D3's and matching speakers for the home theater I have now. Over the last few months, I have had the itch to look at changing manufacturers if I find something that blows me away. I would likely trade in my 802's, so staying in that general price range is needed.
I used to hae Focal speakers in my car and loved them, so I was eyeing the Sopra 3's. Have you had much experience with them? I am open to suggestions to what else should be on my radar. Perhaps the Magico A5's?
Like you ,I am also a McIntosh guy, so all of that is staying the same for power and processing. Just to refresh your memory to know what we are working with it's:
MC452 for fronts
MC303 for center and rears
MC207 for sides, Atmos (front & rear), and my office speakers
MX123 processor for HT
C2700 for 2 channel listening
Can't wait to hear your thoughts and suggestions and to dig into this.
