Quick question: How necessary is a cleaner? I have been using a lint-free towel and a cleaning solution. How big is the difference?

I have the Pro-ject vacuum record cleaner - everything I buy new gets a spin on it and then when they visually need it. Works for me, but I tend to be a bit obsessive on that front, spent north $300 from Audiogon. I hit Audiogon daily for a while until what I was looking for came up.

Ok, I just dipped my foot in the semi-audiophile world and it’s so much better than I expected. I have some Sonos stuff so I decided to try out their new amp. I paired it with Monitor Audio silver 100s in my kitchen and an older jbl sub my son had. I’ve only had it for a few days and the speakers sound very good to me. I will add the 500 floor standers in a few months but, I have the bug to get a turntable. Can you recommend a <$1000 table with a built in amp?

VPI Cliffwood if you intend to go the route of all in one, and you are fine with that budget. That'll come in right at a grand.

Andy Shauf “Neon Skyline”, 2020

Really nice follow-up to “The Party”, though probably played best after hours...

Another few weeks and hopefully I’ll be back in here posting pics of what’s playing on the ‘table.

As for now, I’ve just been streaming random music or listening to SiriusXM while I work on the house.

I am, but I am trying to finish the projects I have going on around the house, so I’m not playing records, as I would have to stop every 20 minutes and change/flip...so I just stream for now.

Britlab.....

May have a deal on a VPI Nomad if your interested. I’ve been looking to upgrade my turntable. It’s their original all in one table.

Allmusic guide, which is my go to review service as they see to approach their ratings from the standpoint of a well rounded music fan, gives it the checkmark even over southeastern. I honestly need more listens, the second time around was much better. I honestly felt it was a bit overproduced which is an indictment of Dave Cobb, who is usually infallible. There are classics on it for sure, but a few tracks that I wasn’t really feeling. I’ll know more in a week or so.

I’ve streamed it a couple of times after watching him & his wife perform the whole thing live. There’s 3 or 4 real gems for sure imo. Was thinking of grabbing the vinyl.

Man, my “Black Fire” is arriving tomorrow! Those Tone Poets are a great series...

This is the only Andrew hill album I own, worth every penny. I will be getting more for sure. The sound Really pops off the record on this pressing.

I have 6 of the Tone Poets so far and they are all amazing. I turn off the lights and I’m immediately in the front row at a smokey jazz club. I highly recommend the Kenny Burrell one, the percussion is steller.

Columbia - 1962 pressing

A find like this is what's great about collecting. Found it yesterday in a non descript box in a tiny local record store. It amazes me how many people mistake a dirty record for a scratched record. It cleaned up very nicely. Not an original '58 pressing, but still a great find. 3 bucks lol.

The recent nirvana talk on the board had me break this out tonight.
